I too saw the program and was impressed with the way it was done. It was so sad to see the pit bull dogs used for fighting. If they do not win where do they go the street. To what attack people and other small animals Then who gets blamed the dog. I wanted to reach into the screen and wake up the guy in the ring with the dogs. The trainer they had on was very clear about the responsiblity of the owner. I hope people were listing. But as one person stated the dog attack in San Francisco only made some people want a dog who can kill

Ok..let me play devil's advocate then Zeusdad.

What are YOU doing to shed positive light on the breed?? Going to obedience classes? Great. A bizillion Goldens go through those same classes yet manage to stay OFF the "Deadlist Breed" list.

What then?

Getting into heated battles proclaiming the virtues of this fine breed with people who have a VALID concern??? My own MOTHER has voiced her concerns about the safety of her much adored grandchildren---Imagine the telephone conversation when she discovered that TWO MORE will be added this year!! Are her concerns unjustified?? ABSOLUTELY NOT!

When the average citizen of this country can turn on the television and view and hear about the CARNAGE left behind from THIS BREED...anyone who questions whether ANY ROTTWEILER can be a good family pet DOES INDEED have something solid behind the question!! That's the time to point out WHY a dog was left to his own devices to MURDER a child! IRRESPONSIBLE OWNERSHIP REGARDLESS OF BREED OFFENDING.

Personally; I'm an irresponsible dog owners WORST NIGHTMARE as a neighbor...whether you own a Yorkie or a Rottie...be responsible; or hear about it.

Again; blame the deed; not the breed....but....don't look PAST the deed.

I just remembered, sometimes MSNBC plays those dateline shows over again at odd hours. Think I'll see if I can find it.

those onwer of those dog shuold be put in jail. becuse those dog w.ere abused those by people i had nabgior who had nean beagle the ower in is now jail. the rottweiler are orgianl breed for grad dog theyuse to cattle heard dog the cattle indesturey fall into brankrupty in gremany in 1860s they had to retrain they dog into gard dogs . i belive we should stop train them as grad dogs and return back to their roots as catttle heard dog .may you not have to that maybe just as famliy then attack dog. and my rottweiler won"t hurt fly and his big wimp but still love dog and he show the better part breed loyal ,friendly,turstworth,and i turst dog he never bite noone not even my little necises.

It is a combination of both: genetics and rearing. Therefore, human failure lies on poor breeding and/or poor upbringing. Hence, the human element is the responsible party for the sucess or failure of the dog.

I to have three kids one 6 one 4 and one not quite 2 yet. They all play with my dogs, however never un supervised. To respond to workindogz question. I never argue with any body about my choice of dogs. I will however answer their questions as best I can to shed positive light. My oldest Daughter goes to class with me and Zeus and everyone is impressed that she can control a dog that is three times her size. I can honestly say that he is one of the best dogs in the class. no barking or jumping. You know as well as I do that a Rotti is not for everyone. A strong dog needs a strong leader. I don't recommend a Rotti to anyone not willing to give them a hundred percent. Zeus was rescued from Ex friends who baught him as a status symbol. But when he got big they no longer wanted him. When I took him in he was almost totally unmanagable. After much time and effort he is now an accepted member of my family. I also agree punish the owners not the dogs. Dogs are like kids they are not born knowing how to act it is our responsibility to teach them. Both kids and Dogs.
