Dog Seat Belts

Hello,

Does anyone use a seatbelt for their dog? I drive a volvo sedan, so I don't have room for a crate - but I want to keep the dog in the back seat. What brands work best? Pros/cons of seatbelts?

Thanks!

I have seat belt harnesses for my two critters. They are designed to have the shoulder harness go thru a loop on the top of the harness and then clip into the seat belt clip. Personally, I find this setup to be kinda crappy. When the dog wants to turn around or get comfortable, they get all tangled in the seat belt.

What I have taken to doing is using the harness with a caribiner ( D clip like mountaineers use) on the chest part of the harness. I have also found a neat little clip that I got at Canadian Tire which includes a regular leash type end on one end, but on the other end is an end that fits into the seat belt clip part. I adjust this so they can move around but not move to far, and if you have to hit the brakes, then they are held solidly by the caribiner and harness.

I had the same type of problems with the dogs getting tangled as Stubby. I found the BatziBelt, which is a strap with clips on both ends that attached to the D-ring on the back of the seatbelt harness and to a shackle you thread onto the chest strap of the seatbelt. Since I've been using the Batzibelts in addition to the seatbelt harnesses, I've haven't had any tangling incidents. It gives the dog a little more freedom, but not too much. ;)

They also sell harnesses on the Batzi website, but I think they look kind of flimsy. I bought Easy Rider seatbelt harnesses for my dogs.

I"m sorry Solomon, I don't have any of the packaging left, and there is nothing on the leads themselves. I"ll take a look at the Canadian Tire website and see if I can find them on there..

Sorry dude, I looked on their web site. No such luck finding that article. I will be out there this weekend though, so I'll write it down for you.
