eye coloring

Hello,

I did a search to see if I could find some information on eye color, but there wasn't any.

My 17 week old male's eyes have not turned all the way brown yet. We got him at 10 weeks. I took him to the vet the next day we got him and she said that his eyes would have turned brown by then. Obviously she didn't know what she was talking about, because they have changed since then. They are a mix of brown and a little green.

I have an 11 year old, but I can't remember how long it took for his eyes to change (I got him at six weeks). My 11 week old puppy's eyes are very dark brown now.

I've got a lot of Rottie books, but they don't touch on the timeframe of the changing of color.

Anybody have any idea on the timeframe?

Thanks.

If the eyes are not dark brown by now then the pup is going to have lighterbrown eyes. The lighter the eyes are going to be the longer they stay blue or green

You can do a search here on eye color.

The best eye color in a Rottie is *almost* olive black. Tootsie roll brown is good, the lighter, the worse. I've never heard of a Rottie with green eyes but I have seen <shudder> pale yellow in person and it was unnerving.

Puppies eyes should be brown by the time they are sold.
I saw a litter that had 2 puppies that had 1 blue eye each. they actually had a half blue eye the other half was brown. 1 dog stayed like that and the other one ended up with a small dot of blue. WEIRD.

I have a 'Rottweiler A Day' calendar, and several of the pics have rotts with light brown, alm,st yellow eyes...it's CREEPY....like they're possessed! I'd HATE to run into one of those dogs ina dark alley .

As for my Ben, now that I get a good look at him (because I'm sitting here eating a slice of pizza :D ) his eyes are a bit darker than a Tootsie Roll...no possessed dog look here, unless he just stares at me, like he's doing now (I think he's trying to telepathically relay a message to me "Mom, you must give me the crust off your pizza slices" or something like that!!)...silly dog!:D :D :D

I too have seen pale eyes. Agreeably, they are a bit unerving to me as well.
I've been trying to remember what Sables eyes were like when we brought her home. Just to be sure I dug up a photo. They were definately dark brown.
You may simply have a lighter eyed pet, it would seem. I'm sure they're beautiful eyes just the same. And the dog just wants good vision.;)

My girl's eyes were brown when I brought her home from the breeders but I have seen a Rott with pale eyes. I didn't think he looked spooky at all, he still looked beautiful to me. I just think they are the most handsome of dogs. The main thing with your dogs eyes is the vision, as long as he can see OK then all is well.

Green Eyes

So, is there anything wrong with Rott that doesn't have brown eyes?

Are there reasons for concern, eye problems later...or something.

I have a Rottweiler Puppies 2003 Calander here at work. Since it's not 2003 I am using the first page, on which there are two adorable pups. Both have green eyes....

Pupies under 6 months old with green or blue eyes will simply have light or lighter eyes when adults. They will NOT stay blue or green

My Penny has copper colored eyes -- Hence the name Penny.

I guess it would depend on the look of the dog but on Penny the light eyes are beautiful. She is a gorgeous Rott & so sweet. Not creepy looking at all.

Nothing wrong physically, only if you want to show your dog. (ahem, doning flame suit...I'm merely answering a question)
"The desired color is a uniform dark brown." "Yellow (bird of prey) eyes, or eyes of different color or size, or hairless eye rim" are considered serious faults.

You'd still have a great pet and what's wrong with that?
