An idea for fun

I thought it would be neat to share some of our favorite dog quotes or passages.

I have several but here's one I particularly love. :)

""It is one of those extraordinary mornings that tells us fall is coming. The air is crisp; the trees now striped with reds and yellows in an otherwise summer colored world. On the thick grassy mat lies a dog, breathing calmly with eyes expectant. The handler picks up the old, worn leather line and speaks to the animal. It stands, stares and then lowers its dark muzzle to the cover, moving slowly, steadily along a line no human can know. It's warm breath turns to steam and spreads, for only an instant, across the forward path in busts, like an engine. As it moves, the power increases so it is driven by only one desire, the fusion of scent and animal. When it reaches the first corner, it senses the change and shifts to another direction, confident of its skill and purpose. As the dog moves towards the distant hill, the trainer - only walking behind - has a solitary wonder of what voice from nature this child of the wolf is hearing."

"Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read." - Groucho Marx.

Not near as pretty as yours! But I figured a silly one might be acceptable. :D

Actually I just started a book called "Dogs Never Lie About Love" that is a great read...I bought it because I read a passage from the book about dealing with losing a beloved old dog that really moved me.

Oh, I love it. Would you share the passage from that book? I'd like to hear it.

Here's another one of my all time favorites:

"Dogs in general seem to be a very pragmatic lot and the Rottweiler in particular exemplifies this, sometimes to the extreme. They tend to do what brings them pleasure and avoid what brings them displeasure. However, a good handler will recognize that this trait can be made an asset rather than a liability, for the Rottweiler's reticence to do what bores him is surpassed only by his boundless enthusiasm for doing what he enjoys."

Note sure if this is on topic but here's one I am sure you have never seen Lauren ;)

" I worry that we're breeding out the Rottweiller temperment in order to make the breed a more "sellable item". Doing so will make a dog that is lacking in working ability, self confidence, independence , toughness and is ironically apt to increase shyness and fear-biting tendencies. A dog with unbalanced drives, a lack of desire to please....well , this now is a dog that is no longer the Rottweiler we loved"

From DOGS NEVER LIE ABOUT LOVE by Jeffrey Moussaieff Mason:
"I am not a religous man, and I pause before using the word soul. Buy my experiences with the dogs in my life, and now with Sasha Sima, and Rani, [talking about his dogs] convince me that there is some profound essence, something about being a dog, which corresponds to our notion of an inner soul, the core of our being that makes us most human. In human animals, this core, I am convinced, has to do with our ability to reach out and help a member of another species, to devote our energy to the welfare of that species, even when we do not stand to benefit from the other -- in short, to love another for its own sake. If any species on earth shares this miraculous ability with us (and perhaps there are many more we do not yet know about), it is the dog, for the dog truly loves us sometimes beyond expectation, beyond measure, beyond what we deserve, more, indeed than we love ourselves."

I didn't mention the author's name earlier because I knew I would mangle the spelling!
Anyhow, that's the passage that caught my eye. I'll look up this thread when I get back from our trip, I was thinking about starting one about dog books in general.

Whew. Lisa, surely you didn't type out all that!

Here's one of my own that I snipped from an email to my mom recently.

"It's an uncomplicated world of black and white as dogs do not understand gray. The relationship is one of simplicity and balance if you just let it. "

As a previous Boxer owner I find this so sweet. (I hope I don’t spoil it and it can “bear” my translation.)

Legend about how the Boxer lost its tail and got its flat nose!

When Adam and Eva ate of the Tree of Knowledge, God excluded them from the Garden of Eden and God made a barrier between Heaven and Earth by sinking the firmament down towards the earth.

The humans felt loneliness, cried to God and asked if they could just have one animal with them to be their friend and protector.

God said: How can you believe any animal, who does not know of sin, will follow you??
The humans cried.

The firmament got closer to the earth, but suddenly there were movements among the animals. A medium sized “yellow” smooth-haired dog pressed forward. The dog rushed towards and hit the firmament with such power, that it nose was squeezed absolutely flat and the dog was thrown backwards. From the lying position it noticed there still was a small open crevice. It slogged and crawled forward on it’s stomach with such much power, that the dust from Heaven whirled up and got into it’s eyes. In the same moment it squeezed it’s hind part of the body through the crevice, the firmament reached the Earth and cut of the dogs tail, so only a few inches were left.

Then God spoke again and said: Your faithfulness to the humans are great, and you and your offspring shall now follow the humans in all their dealings, but I will punish you because of your disobedience, so you and all your offspring will till eternity have a cut tail and as a sign of your stubbornness, you and your offspring will forever have a short flat nose.

Your name will be Boxer.

So it happened, when the Boxer lost it’s tail and got the flat nose and when the humans looks into the Boxer’s eyes, he can still se a part of heaven there.
