another insurance / liability question I am possibly having someone else pick up a rescue rottie for me. This person would drive some distance and would combine the trip with a visit to a family member in the area where the rottie is. I am wondering about possible liability / liability coverage in the event that there might be a car accident, whether caused by the new dog or not. Some damage caused by the new dog enroute, either to the transporter's vehicle, or if the dog turned out to be less sweet than believed or to some third person's person or property along the way. Do any of you have experience in this regard? My homeowner's insurance had no problem covering my former rottie who was known to have a sweet temperment for anything that might happen to someone who came to the house, or, I guess, if the dog were to have done something elsewhere in the neighborhood. I never asked them about travel with the dog. And have never before faced the question of a dog I own, but don't yet know, being with someone else. The person who would do the transport does own pit bull mixes and so is experienced with dogs.

liabillity ins. would be the last thing i would worry about!!!! here are some things to ask yourself about the people thats doing you the favor--------------------- are they dog savy--------can they handle a large dog that may be a little scarred-------------is there vehicle able to have a crate in it so your dog doesnt tear up there car or cause an accident or get hurt in advent of an accideant------the family they are visiting are they equiped to care for this dog while they are visiting. if your not sure of any of these questions i would pick up the dog yourself or ask the rescue if a volunteeer could meet you half way. as far as the liability i would assume that they would assume this since the dog will be in thier possession, and if they ask you about liabilty i would think they had some resevasions even though they offered. it was a verry nice gesture on their behalf but if it was me i would want to be the one to save him from the rescue:D

What happened is it started as a possible person to help me go ( I have a disability that doesn't hurt with rottie ownership but makes long drives hard) and also dog knowledgeable to help me make decision since I am "in love" long distance with the dog, sight unseen. People on rescue suggested taking someone to help keep me from making a non-rational decision. But then it turned out that the person would rather travel with her male partner and visit a relative near where the dog is. I would pay gas and any hotel expense. The relative visit would come first, so it doesn't matter whether those people can deal with a dog. No, these people didn't ask about liability. It is my own concern--with all the images you have brought up. My other concern, of course, is not meeting the dog myself first, not having the car trip bonding period away from my cats ... Hmmm. Maybe I better go.
