| Best toys After reading the thread about all the things Rottweilers have eaten, I started thinking there have to be some dogs out there that have favorite toys that are nearly indestuctable. Other than bones and Kongs, does your dog have a favorite toy that keeps him/her occupied? Did you dog have a toy he/she liked so much that you bought another when he/she destoyed the first one.(..and the second one.....and the third one)?

| Saga loves her furry man, but they get destroyed so fast, I only let her have it as a training reward. Balder had a cat that kind of purred when he would move it around. He adored that cat. Unfortunately Saga got ahold of it and well I haven't found a new one yet. ;) Oh I forgot, Balder has a boomer ball that the neighbors hate but he adores (he talks to the ball while he's playing with it):D |

| Pets Plus carries an inexpensive line of sheepskin squeaker toys that last really well, even with Daphne the Destructo-Rott. All the dogs love the sheepskin toys, and I don't have to replace them too often... Dutch loves his tires - he has three outside, he's figured out how to stand them on end and roll them around with his nose. :D It's very cute. Plastic soda-pop bottles and milk jugs are favourites, I think 'cause they make noise when they get crunched on. And Cooper has had the same little teddy that my last Rottie had for several years - it is ancient and faded, and at least six years old. I have no clue why none of the dogs have been able to shred it yet.

| Brinx loves his squeaky ball. It is a little rubber ball (that I thought would last oh maybe 2 minutes in my house because of they love to tear things apart ) but for some reason this ball has lasted! He loves it. I drives my boyfriend crazy but Brinx is in heaven when he has it! |

| The only thing that lasted with Birdie is a tennis ball. We go throw a bone every two weeks. I have stopped buying her other toys because all she wants to do is take them to a corner and eat them - there is no playing involved. Even other balls she wants to eat, but for some reason the tessnis ball she just likes to play catch with. She's 9 and a half months old now and I am waiting for he day when I can give her a toy that she doesn't try to eat!! I wonder of that day will ever come? |

| The tricky treats ball, from PetSmart. It is an orange ball with craters and a hole for kibble. As they play, kibble occasionally rolls out, but she loves it even when it is empty. She picks it up and throws it, rolls it around and even sleeps with it sometimes. I recently saw something called the almost indestructible ball on the PetSmart website, and they have a rottie in the picture. I think I'll try that next! |

| Payton has 3 solid rubber bones that I picked up at Old Navy one day for $3/each. They've been hanging around for about 4 months:D ;) |

| maverick loves to play with an empty 1 gallon plastic container that i bought from sam's club that held dill pickles. it's definately an outside toy! he loves when you kick it around like a soccer ball. he chases it and bats it around himself too. i saw him throw it up in the air and jump straight up to catch it once! he can entertain himself for quite some time with it. i also bought some cheese balls (cheetos type) at sams. the container is about 2 - 3 times the size of the pickle container. i gave that to maverick this past weekend (it was empty, of course). he went NUTS over it! |

| Bella (19 weeks) favorite toy is pretty hilarious. Its this stuffed toy dog that when squeezed plays that obnoxious refrain from the song *who let the dogs out* The funny thing is that I bought it as a joke because my husband hates that song. Well now she sleeps with it so every once in a while she rolls over on it in the middle of the night and... you guessed it! I am woken up to "Who let the dogs out whoof whoof whoof whoof" It totally cracks me up. Luckily husband and Bella sleep right through it...Just had to share |

| Amber has one of those stuffed NY rescue dogs. My friend Roseanne bought it for her since Amber is a rescue dog and I thanked her and then resigned myself to having to throw out the resulting mangled bit of fabric & fluff in a few days. Well it's been a month & Amber still has it...she's adorable with it! She carries it around and will curl up with it and suck on it's muzzle. You can see her gently mouthing but not biting and she's so gentle with it that it was two weeks before we realized that it had a squeaky in it (she stepped on the toy by accident & it squeaked...she was as startled as I was :D) Occasionally she'll shake it around violently but for the most part she uses it more as a pacifier. Roseanne named it "Dirk" after one of NERR's dogs so if you ask Amber "where's Dirk?" she runs & gets her stuffed dog. She also found the bag of Smidgen's old toys a few weeks ago and was in rottie heaven, taking a toy out of the bag, playing with it for a few minutes then going back to the bag for another toy etc etc. Her favorite from the toy bag is a nylabone that Smidgen barely deigned to chew on. She has systematically destroyed all of the plastic squeaky toys, though. Oh and tennis balls are a big plus. She doesn't chew them, just carries them around & bounces them. She's a big goof ball but then aren't they all? :p Nina

| REUSE! I haven’t spent much money on dog toy (but I admit I have a “weakness” for nice leashes, harnesses, collars etc.) My pups have always loved the inside cardboard of kitchen paper rolls and milk cardboards and an old sock with a knot or an old leather glove. When the dogs get older I put kibble in a plastic can and they have all loved them without kibble too. I also use to cut of the legs of old denim jeans and tie a knot (two toys and a pair of shorts for me or hubby :) ) Balls and kings are a part of my training tools and therefore only used for training and not as toy. It’s my experience that a physical and MENTAL tired dog don’t play much when not having a playmate and when my dog is not supervised… no toys but a big swallow safe bone. Quote:
I ONCE had such a treats ball (I don’t know if it was the same manufacture/brand) but my dog managed to bite of the lid. His canine teeth happen perfectly to suit the hole and the ball stuck… but what getting worse he nearly was choked. Snot, slobber and panic. Hubby tried as hard as he could to remove the ball, and finally our last choice was the hammer. Fortunately hubby is a good tradesman and ONLY hit the ball, when he with one hard hammer stroke knocked the ball into two pieces. In about a min. my dog was OK and I was at least able to react, when I saw the first he did was running around with a half ball… Yes he LOVED it. ;)

| I think Chief's all time favorite toy is an empty plastic soda bottle..the noise will drive you crazy..and he will play with/chew on it so much that eventually you find (or step on with bare feet) little pieces of chewed plastic all over . He will also amuse himself by throwing this small, hard, plastic ring that he has had since we got him, he will throw it up in the air..and play "catch" with himself..I am amused..but then again..just about everything he does amuses me.I'm his momma..:D I thought about giving him a tire outside....or a tire swing...has anyone tried this...any suggestions??? thanks, Nikki |
