German, great post!

I'm new here, but this is the sort of thing that anyone getting a purebred dog should read! Research the breed, don't buy just because they look cool or are cute puppies, etc. About a year after the 101 Dalmations movie popularized dalmations, shelters all over the country were filling up with untrained teenage dalmations.

As to rotties, I am not a professional dog person, but I HATE to see people ruining a wonderful dog by trying to make it mean.

As to my last two rotties, I am just glad that they were sweet stable dogs, yet certainly had deterrent value!

Thank you Carina43. Hopefully more people will read it and learn the implied responsability and the tremendous value of owning a Rottweiler for security purposes. Just do it right

Thank you Amano. The whole purpose of my topic is to let dog owners know that there is nothing wrong with owning a Rottweiler for security purposes, in fact, that is a very common reason to own a Rottweiler. However, you have to do it right, so you can enjoy the companionship of your faithful Rottweiler at its fullest ;) :)

German..

I have had a few rotts and I have never had one for trained for security yet they all have kept my house safe..My female sassy has been with me since she was 8 weeks old and is now two.She is great with kids, cats, other dogs and with people in general the only thing we have ever done is give her love and effection and god have mercy on the man or woman who acts violently toward me or my daughter!!! I have always socialized her and feel that if a person is only looking for security buy a gun cause dogs need love...
