| wanting to add to the "family" hello... first let me say thanks to all who have ever responded to any of my postings, I have learned so much from this site. My reason for posting today, is that we are looking to expand our "family," and I am wondering what sort(s) of breeds mix well with Rotties. We currently have a 1 year old boy who is very well taken care of, and we love very much. He has come a long way since his days of wetting on the floor and not sleping throug the night. I would like to stay away from the traditional breeds, and would really like something that will grow to be about the same size as our boy will eventually top out at. |

| Hi there. Question is, how well does your Rottie do with other dogs? Is he well behaved around them? I think the preference is up to you. you have to decide what breed you like and what will work best for you and your dog. I personally would take a Boxer as my second breed of choice if I had to choose. But that's just my personal opinion. How about another Rottie? :p Good luck! :D Lisa |

| The important thing is to determine the level of socialization your current rottie has - if you are happy with how your current dog is around other dogs, then I would then persue bringing in another addition to the family... Personally I feel rotties mix well with any breed - I would like to add one food for thought here - its important that you get a dog that can match your rotties level of strength and play antics ;) Various breeds of dogs play differently - and some breeds maybe overwhelmed by the boisterous play that rotties demonstrate... i.e I originally adopted a 35lb shepherd mix to play with my male rottie, well - it turned out that they got along wonderfully, but the only problem was he was too rough for her... so I decided to adopt other rotties and their level of strenghth matches each others perfectly... when the rottie "bite" each other often times its just a scratch, when a rottie "play bites' a more delicate dog it could end up in abite wound granted innocently, but a bite wound non the less... I have experienced that a few times especialy when adopting adult rotties my male is gentle with my shepherd mix as are the others but it took some time for them to realize she was not as strong as they were..... so that is something to consider... I think another rottie is perfect...that way they can roughhouse all day with each other and by can both hold their own :) but all in all - and I am biased, I think rotties are great dogs as long as they are well socialized in the first place. good luck. let us know what you decide.
