opinions on puppy shots and socializing

We are going to be getting a puppy in November and I have some shot questions. We kept our boy inside until he had all of his Parvo shots. I carried him around to the grocery store and such when he was small enough but as he grew he didn't really get any dog interaction except with his bigger sister. Is it necessary to keep rotties in until they have had their whole round of shots. I am deathly afraid of Parvo and don't want to risk it. I have heard that rotties are more prone to Parvo. Any opinions?

Rachel - Vaccinating is creating just as much controversy as diet and training methods. I'd strongly encourage you to read as much as you can and make an informed decision. Here's some
links to get you started. I think it makes sense to be able to go to your vet and ask questions and state your concerns. And this
is much easier to accomplish with knowledge in your pocket! Good luck in your decision!

We not only immunized our pup but we chloroxed the part of the yard she would relieve herself. Beyond that, we waited until she was 6 months before we "socalized" with any dogs not directly known to us.
You can ask any of our neighbors, doggy instructors, class mates, and friends this did not harm, delay nor impair her socalization in any way. She has been accused by many of being a SOCIAL BUTTERFLY!
Her dog socalization proir to 6 months was restricted to our own 2 other dogs (& cat), my brothers 9 month old pup, and dogs belonging to trusted friends whom we knew had also immunized their otherwise healthy dogs.
Parvo can be deadly if contracted prior to 6 months of age, and can be picked up in fecal material that has lain outside for even a year! You have every right to be concerned and cautious. ;)
