A great day!!!

Thought I would share my day with you all. I have an 11 week old male Rottie, Ares, he's my heart. Today we went to the vet to get his 3rd set of shots. Well, the vet came in and took a stool sample and gave him his shot, Ares gave him zero trouble at all. Ares also had to get his nails clipped (first time) I was so proud, he let the vet clip them with no fuss at all. The vet said that he had seen two other Rottie puppies earlier today and Ares was by far the better behaved of the three. The nurse came in with the stool results, my boy beat a case of coccidia, I was very happy with that news. The vet then turns to Ares and tells him "you have a very good personality thanks to that guy (referring to me)". That comment just added to the day and let me know that I'm doing right by my boy. I train him everyday, socilize him like you would not beleive, it's paying off in a huge way. I was a very proud mommy today. I think Ares represented the breed very well and I think he will continue to do so. Now, I just moved into a new house, very worried the neighbors would not be accepting of a Rottweiler living next to them. Well, when I get home from the vet, the neighbors across the street come over and starts talking to me (Ares quickly stood between me and the guy gave a bark and ran behind me :D ) It turns out the guy (Jason) has two Rotties of his own. He kneels down and starts talking to Ares, very gently, and Ares just warms right up to him. I respected the fact that he didn't take upon himself and just start playing with Ares without getting to know him first. He also said Ares had a great personality and remarked on how nice his markings were. He let me know that the other neighbors love his two dogs and will no doubt be accepting of Ares. This day has been the greatest!!! I do have a question for anyone who can answer it. Is 17.5lbs the normal weight for an 11wk male Rottie? Just curious, I don't want him getting too big too fast and I definitly do not want him overweight. Thank you all, I know this is one long post, but I am just gleaming at how my baby presented himself today.

Congratulations! What a great day for you and your boy! :D

I think the vet would have told you if he looked to heavy to him. One good indication of if he is too heavy is when you feel his sides. You should be able to lightly press against his sides and feel his ribs. If you cannot feel his ribs, then he is probably a couple of pounds overweight.

Our male pups normally gain 8 - 10 pounds each month so he is very close to that range. Many pups will gain a bit more, some a bit less.

It's nice that your neighbor has rotties too, he can probably be a big source of information for you and will give you someone to possibly train with.

Good luck with Ares and keep us posted on his training and growing up process! :p

Sharon and Ramsey, thanks for the replies. I'm so proud of my boy and beleive me, I let him know it :D . I do a site for a game called Icewind Dale II, just a bunch of fantasy art. I know Ares has nothing to do with my site, but I just had to add pictures of him to let everyone see my boy. You can see him at:

I will be updating those soon. Take care all and I will keep you posted as Ares progresses.
