Signs?? I know I saw it somewhere here, but I can't find it now that I need it :o. Please forgive the asking of a question that I'm sure has been answered recently here. What about signs on the fence, such as beware of dog? Isn't that just a little like telling the world you know you have a dangerous animal, and leaving yourself open to lawsuit?

Mine all say "no trespassing" - that means that everyone should stay out and makes no allegations regarding dogs.

In my case it's just the opposite. My signs are on my entrances to my house only because I have no fencing around my property. The say "Beware of dog". If anyone should enter my home, without my being there, then I am protected and not held liable if the person is attacked by my dog. The person entering my home choose to disregard the sign and basically enter at their own risk. This was stated to me by my homeowners insurance agent. And yes I have one of the bad boys in the insurance world - Allstate. It all depends on what the laws are where you happen to live. Things may be different in you neck of the woods.

| I discussed this with my insurance agent as well, and I use the beware of dog signs, because "keep out" and "no trespassing" are apparently not good enough in court IF some idiot gets bitten. "NO TRESPASSING" signs don't offer any warning as to what might happen when someone illegally enters your property, although nothing is proof against a lawsuit. JG

Again, this topic has been discussed in great detail in the recent past. Research the archives for more information. The key is to check with your state and local laws for the right solution. Some states protect the property owner if no trespassing signs are posted. Others, apparently, are different.

signs... I had to put "Beware of Dog" and under that sign " No Trespassing".....But if someone still broke into my house, I could be liable if the dog bit him, why, you ask??..Because he can say he cannt read, thats how it goes...

That's why they make signs with pictures now.
