A Possible New Addition to the Family!!!

We are the proud owners of a twenty month old rottweiler named Hans. Needless to say he is the joy of our life. He takes walks with us and finds his way into our bed at night. As fellow rottweiler owners I don't need to explain how we feel about our Hans. This is the story. He shares our house with four little chihuahuas. He is gentle and loving to them and has tried to befriend them. Needless to say they only like their own breed and stick to themselves. We are considering getting Hans a little sister. Han is so use to being the center of attention we are worried about how he would feel with another dog his size coming into the family. On the other hand we could tell at times he would love a dog his size to rough house with. Any advice or sugesstions would be appreciated.

Thank to for your help!!! :) :) :)

I have a Yorkie, a Rotti cross, and recently (Sunday last) I adopted a Rotti rescue. Bear, my Rotti cross has her nose WAY out of joint right now because she used to be MY little girl and no other dog got the attention I gave her. Now, I've gotten this bigger, boisterous hambone to come live with us, and she's not used to having my attention divided between her and the new guy.

I can see that she's not very happy about the whole thing when it comes to belly rub time and such, but, I can see also that she is adjusting to the change, and that she enjoys getting him to run with her, and play with her. Although she still has to come to terms with the fact that daddy no longer can only be HER daddy, I think she's kinda liking the new guy :D

I'd say go for it!

There will probably be an adjustment period of about 2-4 weeks. Hans is comfortable with the alpha role and is also complacent with his position in your family, although I'm sure that he is used to your giving your other dogs some quality time. When you bring the female Rottie in, he'll probably feel as if he has to fight for the alpha position once again, and he'll get a bit jealous over the extra time you spend with the female. However, the newbie being a female, he'll probably retain his alpha dominance, and the fact that he'll have a playmate will make him happy once he gets used to the fact that he won't be the only big dog trying to get in your bed. I think it'll be much easier adding a female to a house with a male than doing the opposite. I say, go for it.

I wish I had an extra hand. LOL I have 3 dogs wanting petting when i get home from work. haha They all manage to getting their fair share of loving. I had Axel first, he still thinks he should get the lion's share, but he's learned to deal with it. ;)
