People's Reactions to Rotties We have a Rottie, named Jazz, he is 8 months old, and for the most very obedient. People are threating to shoot him, just because they are afraid of him, he is never off the lease alone, but has broken free twice. So now we will be building an outside kennel, but until then we take him out on the leash for the potty thing. He will not go potty for us. lol Any ideas? I walk him with the leash, sometimes having a hard time because he pulls me, but getting better. I hate it when people slow down and try to call him, to see if he will drag me around, but thank fully he is well behaved and do not give people that pleasure. Anyway just thought I woul dput in a post, looking forward to chatting with other owners. Aren't our Rotties the best?

| Welcome to the Forum. Yes, our Rotties are the best! You'll probably get a thousand yes' here on the Forum!! Seriously Rottie's are so smart - one of the reasons I suppose is why they require the training they do. You are correct by building him an outside kennel ASAP. Hopefully in the winter he gets to come inside (I notice your name is "ice"). It must get very cold where you live. Anyway I'm from Florida and don't know what "snow and ice" really is - ha ha. Anyway, back to your post - it seems your little boy is used to going potty by himself (not on leash) - probably just getting him used to you taking him out - he can't hold it forever!! As for the pulling you - can you get Jazz into obedience training? It would be a lot easier for you. Also, do you plan on neutering him? Please hurry up with that kennel. Keep us posted on Jazz' progress. ;)

Hi Sheenagirl, Jazz is an inside dog, but the weather is warm and he wants to be outside. We are getting him neutered asap. There is no training facilities near me, so we are on our own there, but it has been going really well, he is an angel, and is loved very much. Especially by my 4 year old girl. Jazz is very protective with her and we like that. After I posted I went into my bedroom and he had taken a poopy on my floor, I had him outside 3 times for potty. Oh well I will not give up. The kennel will be up in a few days, we feel its very important for him. Tonight for his walk I will have treats in my pocket to reward him for not pulling me, hope it works hehehe. Jazz is over 90 pounds and I am only 125 pounds, but because of his training he is not all that bad, getting better everyday....talk soon

Hi Ice, welcome to the forum. I know how you feel when it comes to people acting silly when it comes to rottweilers. Buffalino our 14 month old male really attracts alot of strange and unwanted attention, especially since he still has his tail. It seems like everytime I walk him some ignorant person wants to say the same silly thing.." You got a killer don't it? " and I quickly reply with a firm " No ". Then sometimes when we walk people feel like they have to whistle at him to get his attention or for him to drag me to them. So I have stopped whistling at him for his attention and now when people whistle at him he doesn't pay them any attention. Its funny I bet people thinks hes death or something. lol(:P') But n-e-ways good luck with Jazz.

Thanks Courtney, I have been reading alot on Rotties. Jazz is getting so big, I realise I have to be in charge, and well informed everyone will be happier.:) Now I know there are things I can do , to help both Jazz and I. Like the marking of territory, I notice he is just starting that. So now I know to correct it before it goes too far. It bothers me how others look at Rottweilers, they are being judges for thier name not personality. have a good day.....:)

Yes I too have experienced people reacting to my Rotty. He is only 7 mos and when I took him into Petsmart the other day people were turning down other aisles just to avoid me. Women were picking up their shih tzu's and min pins or whatever like he was gonna eat them. Mind you he is big but he is not ferocious at all. Same thing happened at the Vet the other day in fact one lady muttered something about Big dogs should wait outside or something like that. I am not one for ignorance and people should know that ALL dogs are not bad.

I know what your talking about ice. I am 125lbs and walk a 160lb Rott. I often get the "who's walking who?" comment. Then I put Drake through his paces and show them who's in charge! It's fun!

Hi, ILoveRotts, i can relate to your problem, mine is not as big yet as yours, but won't be long. :) I am thinking of getting a proper collar to make him listen, there are no trainers around here. I am researching ways on how to train JAzz, and I will have to be the trainer.:D Hi tapout187, Duque, sounds to me the same size as JAzz. I think is up to almost 26 inches in height now. Its funny sometimes when realizes that he's a big boy, ie: he hates my vacum .. He is a sweety, we love him... but hard work lol :)

Hi there, when we first got our rottie (Maxie) our parents were horrified. She is now 6 and half months old and we have proved our parents wrong. They now think she is the sweetest dog in the world. They even thought it was cute how we celebrated her graduation form puppy k. And how excited we are about basic obeidience class. Everyone we encounter says the nicest things about her. She is such a social girl. My only issue (and it is just me) is that with her bright pink collar, everyone assumes she is a boy. But I would rather have that and mean comments.
