Wow, What a response. It's good to know i'm not alone.

Fortunatly I have a king size bed so there is room for all us girls. Most of the time Jazz sleeps on the floor across the doorway and kisha my senior stays on the bed (she's to old to jump but manages just fine with the step I gave her).

It takes some work to get us all settled down but the girls are starting to understand that the first growl from either of them puts them both on the floor.

Of course I have also spent a few nights on the floor in the dog bed when someone was sick but hey, what's a night on the floor compared to the those big eyes looking at you adoringly as the a big head snuggkes into your shoulder.

No rest with a guard dog

Diesel slept with me until he was about 7-8 months old, and I adored it. But I had to give it up when: 1) my husband finally refused to sleep on sheets sprinkled with dog fur (and I'm sure he's probably right about that- how hygenic can it be?); and 2) Diesel suddenly decided one night that my husband wasn't allowed to MOVE HIS FOOT in "our" direction anymore. Diesel got ejected the **** out of the bedroom instantly on that one, and has since slept on his own couch outside the closed bedroom door.

I miss having him there, but I will NOT have him grappling with my husband for the right to sleep next to me. In our case, "on the bed" is a freedom that we can't grant. He would take it too far, at my husband's expense.

So German, I can easily see what you mean about dogs causing sleeping disorders! Mine continues to guard me vigilantly whenever I'm in a supine position, he doesn't want anyone to come anywhere near me. And it's a bit hard to rest with a 100+ pound dog fending people off right beside you...

No, my other dog sleeps on the bed. She is alpha over my rotti, smaller and doesn't guard resources.

Hal has resource guarding problems with his food and some chew items. We are in the middle of addressing this, and he is definitely not allowed up there to sleep. I'll invite him to cuddle, but only for a little while. Even when he is rehabbed with the guarding, he will still not sleep up there because he does get possessive of stuff, whereas Katie doesn't have that problem :D

Particularly if your spouse is feeling romantic and the dogs are there... kind of uncomfortable, isn't?! :p

You're absolutely right, German! A 110-pound... cramp in the style!

In the end I was issued an ultimatum. (It wasn't just about the fur, if you ask me.) ;)

Our bed is the only piece of furniture that Kayla is NOT allowed on. When it's bedtime, she has her own very nice dogbed at the foot of our bed or she also sleeps on the floor next to Mommy's side of the bed. When it's time to get up in the morning, she is allowed to put her front feet on our bed so she can reach us for kisses. :D

Mya is allowed on our bed- she sleeps at our feet throughout the night. When I first come to bed she will hop up by my pillow and snuggle for a few minutes, but then she gets down. In the summer, she usually prefers to sleep on the bathroom floor (it is tile), as it is cooler. Some of my previous rotties I have not let on the bed, as they had some dominance issues. Mya has none of those, so it is no problem. ;)

Very crowded bed

I'm a newlywed with a big husband in a full sized bed. A couple of weeks ago, I awoke next to hubby with a dog resting toward the foot of the bed with one of my legs on either side of her, and a cat between me and hubby. We need a bigger bed for the humans (and will have one in a couple of weeks) but this new bed will not have pets on it (I haven't quite figured out how we are going to do that after the bad habit we (ok I) started when I was single. The dog hair is a bit much and Daisy is sooo big now. She doesn't snore though and she isn't really a bed hog. She generally doesn't sleep with us through the night, she climbs up for 20 minutes or so, goes down to the tile floor and then reappears early in the morning.

OUR rott never sleeps on the bed when we are in it!! He's just to big. Unfortunately Pappa got soft last night and when Max licked him on the face he called him up to cuddle! The result?? Mom has a crick in her neck and is exhausted. Cuddling on top of the bed is OK.... sleeping in the bed is not!!

FYI Sealy posturpedic now has Dog sized beds.... Ahh... the comforts of our K-9's :p

Guilty! Once or twice. I have a high 4 poster bed that Cromwell needs a boost to get to. Getting off is the problem, he conked his head into my dresser once and really has no desire to get up there again. He is happy to sleep in the doorway so I can trip over him at night and conck my head.

Never on the bed, only the cats are allowed and even they know their place, not in the way! Saga was allowed on the bed before she came to live with us. That was a conventional mattress and we have waterbed and has never been allowed from day one with us. So now when we stay over at my mom's in a conventional bed, I sleep rotten. I am up all night catching Saga sneaking up onto the bed. Both dogs have a pillow bed next to our bed, one on each side. They can choose to sleep there or anywhere else as long as it does not include the furniture. We keep dry cleaning bags on the couches so Saga won't sneak up on to them during the night and when we are gone.:p I love my pets, but hate all of the fur on my uniforms and in my face while I am sleeping. :D
