What type of crate do you prefer?

Just curious.....

Do you prefer the type of crate that is metal with thick wire as the siding or do you prefer the types that are thick plastic?

It is time that Annie gets her own crate....;)

Depends on the temperature. I use wire crates when it's warm and Vari Kennels when it's cool. If you keep your house very cool, the Vari Kennel works fine. You can always turn it *upside down* so the air vents are at the bottom rather than the top - get better ventilation that way.

I prefer the plastic versions more. Mostly for the hair factoid. When Irie was small we had a metal one and the hair was all over the place. When she outgrew that one, we moved on to the plastic one and it works great. They are also airplane safe if that is a factor for you. We keep our house very cool so the heat isn't an issue.

Both!

I keep fold down wire ones for road trips in the truck. They seem to like those better b/c they can still see out the back. I have an SUV so i don't worry about anything flying in and hittin them. It also lets the air conditioning get to them faster and easier. At home we like the plastic ones. It definately helps with the hair factor and also it gives them more privacy. Plus they don't scratch the hardwood floors.:)

Personally, I like the thick wire crates that fold down. Those are the only kind I've ever owned, and I've never had a problem with them. Generally, I put a blanket over the top to give it a more den-like feel, but I leave the sides uncovered for air circulation and so the dog can see what's going on.

I have a folding metal wire crate for Ben. Fits in the trunk, toss a sheet or blanket over it to give him his space, and he's all set.

The only problem I have with a VariKennel type crate is getting the dang thing into my car! :D :D

I have a Dodge Intrepid, and the trunk is pretty big, but traveling with dog in car necessitates having the back seat for the dog, so, for conveneince, the wire crate works best for me.
