More Rotties!

The more time I spend with Max...the more I love Rotts. So of course, I think and think about getting another. If I am smart I'll wait a while :) but here is my question.....do they need more of your time if there are multiple (ie more dogs, more attention), or do they need less of you because they now have each other to keep occupied? And I am asking in a social/pack sense. (I fully understand I will be increasing my weekly allotment of "work/maintenance" ie training, walking/exercise, etc.)

How do you multiple owners think they react to one another and what changes did you see in the whole family/pack?

We have two right now, although I posted a question recently about any changes that might occur or be expected with adding a third. But when we brought in the second, we were lucky that they loved each other immediately! They are opposite sexes, and the second one was only 5 months old compared to 5 years old with our first girl. Now I can't even imagine them apart. They adore each other and are always together. Of course we do things with them separately (training, walks, etc.), but I know they really enjoy having each other during the day when we're at work, or even just hanging out. They don't get jealous of each other and are just the best of friends. We didn't experience any pack/dominance, etc. issues b/c my boy was so much younger and is such a wimp that he would never even attempt to be alpha over the female! But that was just our experience- I'm sure others will respond with different stories. I think it definitely depends on both dogs' personalities. Good luck and keep us updated in case you decide to expand your family! :)

The thing I notice the most with my 3, 2 rotties m&f and 1 male gsd is the competition for attention, everything else toys, food, etc. they normally work out among themselves but when I am petting one they tend to get mouthy and try to push each other out of the way and I normally have to give them a time out (down position) for a few minutes to get them back on track. Other than this one issue it is great having them, except for the food bills.;)

I just recently rescued a female Rottie. I now have a male Rottie, female Rottie, and a female German Srthair Pointer. I do notice that they compete for attention when I am giving it. But, it seems as time goes by, that the competition is not as bad as it used to be. They all know that I won't deprive them of attention! Of course, the food bill is a bit higher, and walking three dogs at one time is quite a hand full! Luckly, they are all trained! I do feel that with three dogs the "pack instinct" is a bit higher than with just two, but if you train and are the alpha of the pack that should not be a problem.

But, other than that I LOVE having the three of them!! They all get along great! My frist two just love the new female and accepted her immediatly. I don't ever regret helping Annie, and now I can't imagine my home and family without her! :)
