Doogie Dooley Review?

Hi,

Summer is here and so are the swarms of flies in my yard. As such my poop patrol sessions have gotten more frequent. I had been digging holes in the areas without fruiting trees and burying the waste once a week. However, I am considering getting the doggy dooley septic tank thing as I will be running out of real estate for the poop digs fairly soon. Does anyone here use the doggy dooley? Any advice or reviews, or maybe an alternative waste management system? I'd rather not have to go out and buy the digesters on a constant basis to sustain the septic tank but I'm stumped as to how else I can keep the yard sanitary.

Thanks.

Hi Truck,

No experience with the "doggy dooley" here, but I will share my approach. I line a 5 gallon bucket with a regular kitchen garbage bag. I walk around the yard scooping and filling the garbage bag as I go. The bucket keeps the bag from closing or flopping over.

When I'm done I pull those garbage bag ties shut and into the house garbage can it goes. No mess, no bother... till next week.

Oh yeah, that's that box out in our garage, hubby never dug the hole for me...so here I am shoveling sh... while it collects dust..

If you really want one, PM me and I will give you a good deal on a new one....its got the tablets also with it...

Its easier than trying to return it to RC Steele after over a year.....

My mom had one when I was younger and she raised pomeranians. She says that they didn't hold all the poop created by four small dogs. She did say that they MUST have improved since then.

I like the trash can idea. If you can collect the waste in a garbage bag once a week, just put it in the trash the night before the garbage is emptied.

Hi there. Just wanted to let you know that we have a Doggie dooley, but because we have clay soil here it didn't work at all! (Much to my husband's dismay!) So I would also recommend the trash can option- that is what we use. I don't know what your soil is like where you live, so you may have better luck with it than we did!;)

Don't blame the soil, from what I've heard that product is a total waste of money. Whatever you put in just sits there no matter how many tablets you add.

Dooley

It doesn't work in the winter because bacteria die.
The ground doesn't absorb the waste after about a year.
If the wind is blowing the right way, you can smell it a block away.
It attracts flies.
It is a lawnmower/edger hazard.

The dooley is an absolute waste of money.

Doggie Dooley

I have a Doggie Dooley. I too have clay soil. At first, it worked well. Then about a month or so later, I notice the waste was just sitting in there. I thought I didnt dig the hole deeper enough. But reading your emails, it just dont work. I even add lime, along with the Terminator stuff hoping to dissolve the waste. Yeah right, it dissolves alright, and stays right there. Oh, dont let it poured down rain, then Im afraid it may overflow. Back to garbage bags.

I've not had any personal experience with the Doggie Dooley, but I have a friend with 6 boxers and a shepherd mix. She told me the other day that the poop has sat there in it for 2 years no matter how many enzyme tablets she puts down there. So she's reverted to the trash can method. It gets picked up with her regular trash once a week, no muss - no fuss.

Don't throw your money down the Doggie Dooley toilet.

Well it looks like the doggy doolie is a no go. Maybe i'll just fling them over the fence to the neighbor's yard when no one is watching. Either that or resign myself to giving it over to the garbage collectors. Off to the landfills we go!

Thanks for all your input, its really appreciated. Now I can put the money into the DVD Player fund... umm for the pets ofcourse. They've been pining for one all year.

Thanks again.

Our dog poop goes into the empty dog food bag, then into the trash. I like to think of it as a form of recycling......:D

I had one that worked for many years but it was high maintainance to keep it going. You must add warm water to it daily and enzime every 3-5 days, more in the winter. This past year I couldn't get it going at all and went with the garbage can idea which is much better. I use one of those stainless steel diaper pale type garbage cans with a foot peddle to open it. I line it with a plastic bag and empty it about once a week (**it gets heavy). I keep the can on our patio in the back yard and it only smells when it's opened which keeps the flies away. :D
