Crate one, free one?

I've recently rescued a fabulous one year old male. However, he is not quite housebroken. I'd like to crate him when I'm not home. Here's the problem. I also have a 7 year old female whom I let have the run of the house while I'm away. Is this going to cause problems? Anyone else have to deal with this? HELP!

Three of my dogs have gained privilages of house roam so far.
Sprite (my min-pin) is babygated to the second floor of our house. Odin and Delila get roam of the downstairs and basement. All the rest are crated. As they mature they will be free too, but until then I have no problem crating them. The dogs dont hold grudges either :)

Did you know that every 4.5 seconds a cat or dog in america is "put to sleep"?

I have no problem with crating in general. Used it with Bella for the first few years and it worked like a dream. She loved it too.

I guess what I'm really asking is does the crated dog seem resentful/jealous about the non-crated dog. Does the free dog antagonize the crated dog?

NO. No problem. They're dogs, not people! Go ahead;)

Oliver is crated when we are not home and at night for the safety of the family cats. Chase just doesn't care enough about what Oliver does to waste time harrassing him about it. Besides, that would be beneath her dignity.

We have not really had the Alpha dog discussion between Oliver and Chase. As I said, she (Chase) just doesn't care enough about Oliver to deal with that whole mess. She is quick to put him in his place if he wants to play too rough though.

Nah, there should be no problems ...Brandi was crate trained as a pup and eventually gained free roam of the house as she matured, Maximus is still young and has not earned his free roaming privlages yet , he stays in the crate when we are out and at night when we are asleep, they both do fine with it. :D

So I finally got my big crate out of storage yesterday. I used it with Bella for her first few years but phased it out about 3 years ago and have stored it since.

I set it up in the basement and Jake wandered over to take a curious sniff. Bella trots over, snarls and snaps, pushes her way past him and lays down with a look on her face that leaves no doubt about who's crate this is! :)

I guess I'll be having to get another crate! Let the crate training naysayers tell me again about how much dogs hate being kenneled....
