Ears inside out

I did a search on ears and found no previous post on puppies' ears flipping inside out. My 4 month old's ears are all the time flipping inside out. When he playing or sleeping one or both of his ears will flip inside out. His ears lay close to his head when they aren't flipped and seem to be a good size.

Has anyone else experienced this and is it a cause for concern? I will put the link to his photo album here so you can see how he normally carries his ears.

Thanks,

Perhaps you can massage them. Whenever my pups ears flip over I massage the base of the ear as part of the flipping back over process. You may also want to massage them on a regular basis. This will get your pup used to your handling it's ears which you will need to do on a regular basis as part of normal maintenance. I massage her ears and feet quite regularly as clipping nails and cleaning ears is a once a week job ;) .

I don't breed or show so just rescue so I am not as concerned about appearance as some people.

But in my experience (I have 4) the ear flipping stopped as the puppy matured and the head got bigger. All 4 of my Rotts went through this. So in my opinion, if you are not showing don't worry - he'll grow out of it.

He looks beautiful to me!

I agree with ILoveRotts I believe they have to strengthen the muscles around the ear to keep them turned out.

hmm... Both of mine get their ears turned "inside out" every so often. I never thought anything of it besides the fact that they look funny. I always just go over and flip them back.

This happens when they are teething. If the ears were correct before and are set correctly and of decent leather, they will return on their own. You can massage them if you wish at the fold and teach the dog to "work" the ears for treats. (that means bring them forward to correct position before he is rewarded).
