| Is this behavior normal? My five month old male Rottie, Rascal is very clingy, I have two other dogs and when they go outside to play he will go out for a few minutes --maybe 10 or 15 at the most, but he wants to be by my side all the time, if I go in the bathroom and shut the door he whines and scratches at the door. I don't think he has sepration anxiety because when we do leave him for a few hours, the house is fine when we come back. When my last Rottie was a pup in 1991, I worked full time so I wasn't with him all day, so I can't compare them. Is this 'clingy' behavior normal for a Rottie? |

I've had 2 rottys. My first girl was "clingy" 'till the day she passed away and my 6 month old is the same way. If I had to say it was a breed trait, I'd say yes. However, I've only owned females, I don't know if this applies to males as well.

| I am an owner of an almost 11 month old female. Also my first Rottie. She is very clingy sometimes. She will sometimes be in a dead sleep and if I get off the couch or chair to go somewhere, she will get up and come with me. And sometimes she'll just watch what I'm doing. But most of the time she is with me where ever I go. Especially the kitchen.:) I believe that I have read that this is one of their behaviors.

| I have a 3 month old male and he tends to be clingy. Not so bad as whining at the bathroom door, but places such as puppy class, he would rather be with me than the other pups. Our instructor referred to him as a mommy's boy.:D |

| My almost 5 year old also scratches at the door if I go outside without her, follows me from room to room, etc. She's not "clingy" in other ways, though-doesn't have to be petted all the time, if we're in the house she'll entertain herself, etc. I think it's a "breed" thing-wanting to be where their people are. My dog has been a little worse since her knee surgery. In a very strange sort of way I think going thru that together strengthened our bond...

| I wouldn't call them clingy but they certainly always want to be in the same room with the humans. Both my 1 year old Kayla and my last girl Nadia (at the bridge) like(d) to follow me and/or my wife around the house from room to room and would scratch at the door if we went in the yard without her or into the bathroom. However they need their personal space too. If I try to hug her, she will pull away and if I sit right next to her on the couch, she will move over or to the floor. When we are at the dogpark, she will always be closer to us than any other dog and doesn't run off too far (always keeps us in sight).

| My 3 year old male likes to be in the same room as me, he will get up out of a sound sleep and follow me if I leave the room. He sleeps on the floor of the bedroom, but he gets up in the middle of the night to lick your elbow or whines and comes up for a pat. One time I stepped out to dump the trash and he busted out to be with me. Now I shut both doors ;) Amy |
