Oldest rottweiler?

My friend Patti was asking me what the oldest living rottweiler is today and I'm not sure what it is or who to contact to find out... SO does anyone know? Patti's girl is 15 1/2 years old. I know two people who had rotts that made 16 years but they are gone now. Anyways anyone have a rottweiler older than 15 1/2? Thanks.

Wow, that's the oldest I've heard of. Maybe contact some Rottweiler organizations and clubs and make a few queries. They may be able to send you in the right direction. :)

Boy, I sure hope there's luck in a name! My name is also Patti and I'd just love to be able to say my girl was still up and kicking at 15-1/2! :D

My future mother-in-law has a very old Rottweiler named Nina. Her oldest son found her abandoned in a fraternity house (she was left there for the summer). That was 11 years ago, we don't know how old she was when he found her. The vet seems to think she's 13-14 years old. Because of how sweet Nina is, I know have two of my own, and my sister-in-law has two of her own. At any one time, we have 5 female Rottweilers running around!!

My oldest rottie was 13 yrs plus 10 months, two months shy of turning 14. I presently have one that just turned 12. The 13.10 had many things wrong with him, which made it all the more surprising that he lived that long.:) He had low thyroid, irritable bowel, tested low vwd and had mild hip displyasia. It would be interesting to know what the official "oldest rottie" would be.

It would be sooo nice if there was a secret to getting these guys to live to 14-15 years old. There are so many of them that we have to let go of at 9-10 years of age. However, I can only imagine how much harder it would have been to let Mojo go if I had him longer. I just kept getting more and more attached to him as the years went by.

I called Patti for the birthdate this morning but she is at work.
It is a purebred and I will ask for sire and dam also. I have not had any of my rottweilers live past 11 years but my Siberians have reached 16 years. The AKC has no way of knowing which are still alive as most pet owners don't send the papers in when the dog dies.
Patti seems fairly determined as she contacted The Guiness Book of World Records but was told they don't keep records by breed.
I married a German Shepherd man and his dogs only lived to 10 or 11 before encountering problems. Yet GSDs are one of the breeds I always hear people saying, "We had a shepherd when I was a kid who died at 17"..... Hmmmmm.:)

I think that genetics plays a large part in the longevity of our dogs. However, I also think that if we looked back at the times that these dogs did live longer, medical & nutrition also have a large influence.

I know a man in virginia that lost his female rottie when she was 15 years old and that was last year. My male is still going strong and will soon be seven. I do have a siberian/samoyed mix male who is 16 1/2 years old too.:)

My three oldest to date have been 14 years, 3 months; 12 years, 2 months and 10 years, 11 months. I definitely think there is a correlation between the bloodlines and longevity in their lives.

I'm SO jealous, Bear my first Rottie died one month after his tenth birthday. He had been healthy all his life until he came down with cancer of the spleen. We had to put him to sleep on Dec. 27, 2000. I still miss him. :( I can only hope my new Rottie boy will live longer, I'm doing things differently this time, I've learned a lot about dogs and their health in the past two years.
