Neutering

Ok, I have heard some things in the forums that make me wonder what age is best to nueter a male. So, what's the best age a male Rottweiler should be nuetered?

I heard that neutering at about 2 years is best because it makes the male look less "bitchy"? I know it sounds funny, but could it be true? They said that a male who is nuetered younger would look more like a bitch. What have you experienced with this? I know hormones can do weird things so who knows?

Thanks, I know it's a weird question... :p

A male can be neutered any time after about 6 months. It's good genetics, good breeding that give the male Rottweilers their good looks.
I volunteer for rescue many of the male dogs we get into rescue are over 2 years of age and unaltered... they come from BYB's and do not have that large blocky head... this come from the breeding.
There was a breeder on this forum (don't know who) that bred a litter of pups... she kept one male puppy for herself and all of the other pups were spayed/neutered at 6 months that were sold to pet homes. She saw her pups as they grew and the males heads of the neutered dogs were the same (nice) as the unaltered male pup that she kept for herself.
Good Breeding= Good Dogs

If you are not planning on showing, working or breeding your dog have him neutered early... there is no need to wait. The bad habits of marking and mounting start and aggression too, life is much easier with a neutered/spayed pet:)

Any other comments on this?
My puppy is approaching 6 months and I am also wondering to have it done now, or wait until about 1.5 years old.
Thanks

I think the owner of an intact male/female MUST look at their level of responsibility first. IF there is ANY chance of an unwanted pregnancy or ANY chance of not being able to 100%-24/7 ability to control such dog...then neuter NOW. It is *my* personal belief to neuter until the age of 18-24 months. Again, this is my own formed opinion and is the age that my dog will be neutered. I think one must take in ALL the information that is present to this debate, and form an educated opinion. But again, please exam yourself as an owner first. Then do the best/right thing in your given situation.
