Show potential puppy?

I hope I posted this in the correct place.... Anyway, I was wondering, how do you choose a potential show puppy? I know some of the basics, but I need to know what to look for in a potential show puppy? I hear that you should wait until the puppy gets older to see what it will turn out like, is this true? It makes sense to me.

I want to make the best decision when the time comes, I'm finding out that there's a LOT to learn!

If you are really serious in getting a good puppy, I would do extensive research into various breeders. Selecting the proper puppy involves not only having the necessary experience which comes from years of breeding but also knowledge regarding the ancestory of the dogs.
