| Please put up a proper real fence, 6 foot high with locked gates. |

| Don't recommend them We used an electric fence with our second rottie and I don't recommend them. They don't keep people and animals out of your yard and if your dog wants to really go through he will . Their were times when ours went through it and when we checked the line and the collar the battery was dead. The more they go through, the more it runs down the battery and when you think it's working it really isn't. IMO it isn't the safest way to go for many reasons, I too would look into a fence for peace of mind and security. With the bad rap our breed is getting, you certainly don't want them to run free. | Thank you so much for your advice. We wondered how it would keep Roxy in the yard. She can be very determined; i.e., bunnies and the neighbor's wet trash. I don't think I would want to let her out unattended even if we had a traditional fence. She is still very young. |

| An electronic fence might work well for a Sheltie or Golden Retriever, but I would not trust it to contain a Rottweiler! Seriously, I think most Rotties have a high enough pain threshold that they will blast right through it if they see something tempting enough on the other side. Actually, I even know a Collie who takes the shock in order to chase the mail truck. A six foot wooden privacy fence is the way to go. |

| just thought i'd throw my two cents in also, i would recommend a wooden privacy fence. we made the huge mistake of putting up a chain link ..with neighbors on the side who have three kids..they are constantly teasing our dogs and putting stuff threw the fence..they dont respect our property, and i think if we would have put up a privacy fence on the side with the neighbors we wouldnt be having any problems..which is another whole issue tami |

| Yes, if you can afford the 6 foot privacy fence, it is more than worth it...we couldn't at the time, and have a 6 foot chain link fence, we eliminated the gate at one side of our house totally and it is now 6 foot high fence only and cut off that whole side of the house from access, luckily we have alot of neighbors with dogs and the only problem guy lives accross the street from me. No matter what, definitely go 6 foot.... :) And padlock the gates with signs. |

| I Agree with everything on here but one thing, I WOULD NOT post a sign. If your state laws are anything like mine it is not a good idea to post any type of sign that states Beware of Dog, Keep Out, even a Sign that is a joke like the ones you see at a dog show. "My dog can Make it to any part of this yard in 5.5 sec. Can You???? " If you post any type of sign warning of a dog or so on with a dog in your yard, You Know your dog will bite..... A friend of mine just had to pay a a guy $30,000.00 because He entered the yard to break in the home " Police Found Tools, and the man even told the police he should have paid attention to the signs befor trying to break into this house. Also he has to spend 10 days in jail and pay a fine to the state because he allowed his dog run loose ( Inside a Fenced Yard ) unsupervised Knowing the dog would Bite. Because he had Beware of Dog signs posted........., So any way check your state laws befor posting a sign. :D ;) |

| i agree with everyone on the board, if the power /batteries die then your dog can get through - also rotties have been known to get through these fences if they really really want to.... also as is also stated, someone can walk in your yard and take your dog, no problem, for peace of mind and reassurance that you know your dog CANNOT get out get a sturdy fence installed... some neighborhoods do not allow certain fences, you can get a ranch style fence but as long as you get the three tier minimum and not the two tier , also ensure you get industrial grade mesh wired to ensure the dogs cannot get out...

| My sister in AZ installed an electric fence to keep her GSD mix puppy inside. Well guess what, the electric fence requires TRAINING the dog too which my sister is not willing to do. So the GSD still gets out, still bothers the neighbor's horses, still runs into the road, etc.

| This was one for the books... I was reviewing adoption applications last week for the Shelter I work at......and one of the questions is "What type of containment do you plan to use for your yard?" Then it gives a list that the adopter checks the one that they will use.... ie fence, kennel run for the dog, electric pet containment system etc... Someone (who incidently will not be adopting a dog from us) actually put "LOVE" in the space where it said "other". LOVE was going to keep this dog in the yard. ![]() If that wasn't enough....the *yard* was an apartment complex....therefore; *LOVE* was not only going to keep the dog in HIS yard.....but in everyone else in the complex's yard!!!
