ROTTIES in Germany

I heard some very distrubinig information this weekend at our rescue day. One of the volunteers indicated that she use to live in Germany with her husband and they had two rotties. They since split up and she moved back to the States - he is still in Germany.

Apparently the Germans have institiuted a law where they are trying to rid the country of the breed!!! The only way they are able to do this is by instituting a test which every rottie owners's dog has to pass... this test apparently is very very stringent - she indicated it is almost like torture and NO dog would pass that test anyway... if the dog fails the test then the dog will be destroyed immediately (shot)!!!.

She said her husband got so anxious when someone spotted him walking the street with the dogs - he said the German police descended upon his property within minutes - demanding the dogs take the test or die...
He said he did not want to risk them failing this "B.S test" so he shipped the dogs over here last weekend.. . they are now up for adoption as she lives in a small condo which cannot accommodate two additional dogs (as she already has a pit bull).

Has anyone heard about this?

I cannot remember which month's publication of the Dog World magazine, but the article written reveals the details. It must be several months ago.

I don't know if this URL is appropriate (it doesn't encourage an individual breeder or anything), I'll leave it up to the moderators to let me know if it's okay.

A very outspoken and passionate site regarding the impact of Breed Ban legislation and the desperation dog owners face.

Please note: Some of the stories are heartwrenching. :(
