| I was introduced to rotties by my hubby. At Thanksgiving 2000, my only pet, our cat, was hit by a car and we had to put him down. Well, my hubby felt like he needed to make up for his "poor parenting" (he twisted my arm into letting the cat go outside), so he wanted to get a dog to care for. He found an ad in the paper for a rottie. My response, like my family, was "OH NO ROTTIES ARE MEANS DOGS". And I have been a dog person all my life. Go figure. Well, we go over to the house to look at the dog. Her name was Rachel, which is my name. I started laughing right then. She was just so sweet and of course a wiggle butt. She laid down by my feet and used my purse as a pillow. These poor people that were giving her away had been through terrible trauma that year: the husband had died in a car accident where the daughter was driving and the grandmother and an aunt had to be put in homes b/c of alzheimer's. My heart broke for these people. "Rachel" was the daughter's dog and the mom had to firmly let her know she had to leave. Anyhow, we brought "Rachel" renamed to Lucy home a week later, and it has been love ever since. We love rotties so much that we got another one, Brutus 6 months later. And, of course, my family loves them too. :D

| I have seen rottweilers before..........movies, neighbors, friends, etc. Never owned one till the end of 2000 when Lurch came into my life. I researched breeders, checked out the local club, and went to visit a new litter. Lurch was smallest of the bunch.......but rough-tumble-in-your-face attitude all the way. I fell in love the first time I picked him up. Hands down, the sweetest, most beautiful, brightest, finest, most handsome, smartest, bravest, funniest, and finest dog that has EVER lived! I am, of course, a little biased............

| Friends of my parents owned a lovely female rottie called Sasha. I really fell inlove with her and the breed when I looked after her and took her to the horse with me and she took it all in her stride. My husband decided he wanted another dg so after careful research we found Max. Although he was a terror to begin with I am now totally in love with him and wouldn't hesitate to get another one. My Parents had a ridgeback and this was the reason we got ollie but the rottie is a breed above all others I believe!!:D Although I'm still getting hassled by my parents and friends for getting a rottie as they are all getting to know him for the lovable lump he is everyone is falling in love with him. Even caught my dad giving him big cuddles the other day!! |

| I might be tossed off the board for this one, but I was always weary of Rottweilers. All I knew about the breed was the reputation they had and the Huge dog up the street tied on a chain that sounded like he wanted me for lunch when I walked by. I was searching on petfinder.org for a large dog or pup when I ran across a rottweiler for adoption. I happened to mention it and my SO said he wanted a rottweiler apearantly his extended family had several while he was growing up. I started researching the breed, then saw a Animal Planet Program about them. I was sold. I wanted a dog that was not yippy, the pup needed to be able to withstand Jack play which is VERY rough, and we are a active family with lots of hiking etc.. I also wanted a dog that would be good with kids one day in the distant future. A friend of SO's parents had a litter of hand raised rotties who needed good homes they were giving them away (they were BYB's but I didn't know it at the time). Anna came home at 2:00 AM on July 29 and I don't think I will ever have another breed. I will however rescue next time. She is my baby and the smartest dog I have ever owned. My whole family is now in love with her which is a huge step from "She will eat your kids if you ever have any" I guess we are a whole family of people no longer steriotyping any breed because of the types of people who are horrible dog owners and never deserved a poodle let alone a large powerful dog.

| THANK YOU ALL!!!! Your stories have been so inspiring!! :D You've all been saying what I've known for years. Any breed of dog that can generate such wonderful stories, from such a diverse group of people, surely deserves such dedication and love! :)

| I fell in love with the breed as a teenager. My sister & I were asked to house sit for a friend of family. She had an adopted female Rottweiler Molly and several cats. Molly had been abused before. Well I was a bit nervous, I was not raised with pets(well I had a parakeet ) Anyway the first day was a little anxious for us. (remember I had never been around dogs before) Anyway she just kept staring & staring at me. So I just gave her her space & just talked to her. The next day she followed me around from room to room and then when I sat down to watch tv that eve. she comes right up to me sits down in front of me & sticks her paw on my lap. (I had been accepted) I started rubbing her paws and she just got this look on her face like Aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh! And from that point on I was hooked. How can you not love a breed that is intelligent enough to overcome their past and learn to Judge/trust someone. You can really communicate with them on a level above most dogs.

| When I met my boyfriend Bernie, I already had two dogs living with me. A Jack Russell and a French Bulldog. Bernie told me he'd always loved rottweilers and his parents didn't allow him to keep such a big dog. Bernie knew that I wouldn't mind having another dog in our house and so we decided to buy our baby Leo. From the moment he entered our frontdoor I fell in love with him. And I know that we'll always have a rottie in our home. |

| Ummm, Sassy's Dad? What does any of what you wrote have to do with how you fell in love with the Rottweiler breed? Maybe you answered the wrong thread? Or maybe you wanted to start a new one?

| The first time I ever laid eyes on a Rottweiler(s) was when I was stationed in England. I was on patrol one afternoon, when a call came over the radio to respond to a 911 hang-up in base housing. When I arrived on scene with another patrol officer, the front door was wide open. We became a bit leery due to we had been having a rash of British Nationals doing B & E's in housing. We approached the house, entered the front door to then be greeted by two beautiful black and tan dogs. They starred at us like "can we help you?";) Needless to say, at this time I had no clue what a Rottweiler even was. Then after a few seconds of thinking to ourselves "what do we do now?" a young teenage girl came walking down the stairs. She had cut her hand on a broken glass and was bleeding pretty bad. She told the dogs it was OK, and they both then sat by her side. We then called medical for her and she was transported to our base clinic for treatment. It was at the moment in time that I "admired" this breed of dog. They were alert, but not aggressive. They both gave a stare that made you think twice about entering their house, but had a wait and see attitude. When she told them it was "OK," and their response was outstanding, I became impressed. I later talked to the father (owner) and for the rest of my time on station, made it a ritual to stop by their house to say "hi" to Rocky and Bea (the Rottweilers). It was during this time frame that I knew one day I would own this beautiful creature. I was only 19/20 years old then. Now, I own two noble Rottweilers. Raja and Eiko. Been with the breed since 1995. I will always have a Rottweiler, until I get too old and fray to properly handle one. They are as apart of me as my spirit.

| Growing up I had always admired huskeys until I was 18 and get a job working at a kennel. The kennel I worked at bread Oes, English Cockers, Pointers, and used to breed Rotts. I knew little about this breed except their reputation. The first one I was intruduced to was Huddy. I was a new person so as I approached his play yard he growled at me. The person I was with told me it would be ok and had me follow him in. Right away Huddy came racing over wagging his butt. The sweet look in his eyes grabbed at me heart. The next one I met was Ron. He as Huddy's father. Ron acted like he had known me for years. I walked in and he jumped up, gave me a hug, licked my face and fell to the ground waiting for a belly rub. :D This turned out to be a daily ritual till he died at age 7.:( His nervous system went out. I can't ever remember crying so hard over the loss of a dog. I was hooked on Rotts. Now I have my own baby who as I type is snoring at my feet. Sharess is just 12 months old. She is so smart, and loves EVERYONE. My boyfriend wants to get another when we move next year to our new house. I know that this breed will always be in our lives. Thank god for letting me meet Ron.
