Hello,

We've just recently chipped our dogs. I don't think they even felt the needle (which is big by the way, so don't get freaked out). The best thing we could have done. We want our doggies back home if they ever get the urge to roam. Highley unlikley but not unheard of:)

FYI

The chip is about the same size as a grain of rice. If you're still not sure - call your vet and ask them to go over everything with you first.

I can't tell you the JOY in people's faces when they are rejoined with their lost dogs. I'm happy to say that over the years I previously worked in vet clinics - we were able to reunite several families. The quickest, easiest and most accurate way to assure that happens, is to microchip your pets.

:)

Holly was 'chipped' a couple months back. I was afraid she might feel some discomfort, something weird in her shoulder area ... but the way she acted, there wasn't a chip back there.

I had Holly chipped because I call her the 'tag Houdini'. I've tried multiple ideas and still come home to find her tags laying in the back yard. The chipping was for my peace of mind. :)

I am in the Phoenix area as well and approached my Vet about tattoos for my two puppies. He said he would be happy to do whatever I wanted, however he admitted that he is a lousy tattoo artist and wanted us to know that the tattoo probably wouldnt be too pretty!

He then went on to recommend the chip. I am all for it, but wanted more info before I went ahead and did it.

For those in the Phoenix area, what is the CABRA???

CABRA is the Coalition of All Breed Rescue. If you want to know more about them or where you can get dogs chipped send me a private mail.

Microchipping is a good idea, but remember, the easiest way for your dog to find his way home is to have your contact information on the dog's collar. Also be sure if you are away from home to have a number people can contact where someone will actually answer.

Vicki, I agree that a collar with tags is the fastest way to get your dog back if it gets out. But for some of us a collar is not an option. One of my girls has a tumor on the underside of her throat and a collar irritates it. So for her I had the options of tatoo or chip for indentification. If I could she would be chipped and wear a collar with correct phone numbers and identification.

I am a firm believer in the chip. For some reason, I looked into a chip on a Friday and had it done Saturday. Monday, I got a call that my pup was in doggy lock down. Found her collar outside my yard. Apparently, some kids where playing with her through the fence and at the time, she was small enough to sweeze under it I would never have thought it possible. Anyway, the local Humane Society called me at work cause they scanned her chip. I immedieatly went to bail her out. They told me how glad they where she had one and about the recovery stats of animals with and without them. I thank God something told me to have it done when I did. Needless to say, that is why I have her today.:)
Get the chip.
