Puppy Weight

Hello all! This is my first post. The puppy belongs to my boyfriend- she is a beautiful german rotty almost seven months old. Atlast weigh- she was 67 pounds. I was wondering if this is average, above average or below average. She eats only dog food- its strictly forbidden to give her any sort of "people " food. Amy

I thought my delila was a rottzilla when she was a puppy, she weighed 73 lbs at 6 months - thats right 73 pounds.

But now at 17 months she weighs 90 - so only time will tell how big your girl will get.

I also have a female puppy right now and she weighs about 55 at 6 months.

Just keep her lean and happy and healthy :)

Puppy weight

Hi
If you look down on your dog and you see his body go straight from shoulder to hip he is too big. He should have a waist.
You should be able to feel his ribs but not see them. If you have an indent where his waist is, he is skinny. His weight will depend on so many things that it is unreliable to state what a particular dog should be, unless he is a class dog. Then he should be close to the standard. Is he a Shepherd/Rottie cross or an Aristocrat from Germany? Sounds like you are haqving fun with him.

cooltimw: You may want to take a look at the Nutrition & Grooming section of the forums. There are many foods that cost just as much as Science Diet, but are much better quality.:) From what I remember of the ingredients of Sience Diet it is mostly grains, and fillers and uses chemicals as preservatives.
Good-luck with your growing pup!

Gina

My Czer is 10 months old and weighs 123lbs. I can just see everybody's mouth open. You can feel his ribs and has a waist. He's just pure muscle. His father was also a big boy at 3 yrs old weighing in at 160lbs so I believing its genetic. I know there's set standards but every dog is different and just go by what all the posts have said about the ribs and waist definition.:)

my 10 m/o is now 120+lbs as well and I am not proud of it...I don't know how he put on the weight...he has always been stocky

I cut his food back significantly and took him to the vet and breeder...They both said he was OK, in fact they said cutting the food back too much would stunt his further development...He just put on 10lbs one week after I successfully kept him at 112 for 3 weeks...Some days, he doesn't eat at all... Strangely enough, I can see the last rib...and he still looks the same size as he was when he weighed 80 and he may be only about 26 inches high on a good day, but he is relatively long for most rotties his age...

wow

Those sound really big. I sometimes think it would be nice if my little girl would get to be that big, but then when she gets hyper, I'm glad she's only 45lbs. Those dogs would be taking me for a walk.
