| Over Bite? If a puppy has a 3/16" over bite at 5 weeks of age what will more than likely happen as he ages? Thanks for any and all replies. |

| Re: Over Bite? That is not too much of an puppy overbite. In many instances, that bite will correct. Of course, it all depends on the genetics of the sire and dam, but I would think that it would have a good chance of correcting.

| Re: Over Bite? An underbite will not correct because the top jaw grows first, the bottom jaw grows next, to "catch up". With an underbite the bottom jaw is longer than the top, and since the top jaw is contained inside it, it restricts the growth, preventing it from developing normally. |

| Re: Over Bite? Take your own teeth and line up the front incisors so the bottom of the top teeth exactly meet the top of the bottom teeth. That's a level bite. |

| Re: Over Bite? That's a question a breeder could better answer than myself, as I don't breed. Hopefully Sharon will return and answer that for you. |

| Re: Over Bite? I would not say it is common. You are probably aware that a true level bite is severely penalized in a german style conformation show.

| Re: Over Bite? No, in AKC, a level bite is a serious fault, an underbite is a DQ fault.

| Re: Over Bite? I think in different lines of dogs you will find things more common to crop up, not all lines. If you have a really honest breeder who knows their lines they will be able to tell you what HAS cropped up regarding bites (and this should also include missing teeth as well). Kristi

| Re: Over Bite? Hello, I don't post much but I do read here alot and learn alot. This topic hits close to home for me because I have a boy with a tight scissor bite. I was wandering if or when this could turn into a level bite? I have been told that it may go level. He is now 14 months and would like to know if his bite will continue to stay the same or not. Thanks in advance. Teresa |
