NE Sieger first show ever, great people good times

Well it was my first show. I brought my girl along to handle Jake because I obviously cant run him. As we are outside the venue waiting another dog goes after Jake...well needless to say it pissed him off. Then we find out that this guy is next to Jake in the ring. Well that was not fun seeing a Dog keep challenging him...It was hard for Jamie to handle him. I think next time I will go in the ring and Ill just have someone run him since I have some control over him. We had 7 I think Dogs in my class 18-24 male...Jake did not place which was fine and he got an SG rating. The judge DID NOT give a V rating to any dog under 24 months. He said that most of the dogs in Jakes group could be V but they are not old enough yet. Here is how Jakes critique Reads....

"18 month old male, medium size, medium bone, attentive, calm, storng male head, broad topskull, medium size correctly carried ears, right ear could lie tighter to head, dark brown eyes, dark lip and mouth pigment,Good kneckline, short croup, sufficiant angulation,Somewhat steep shoulder angulation, straight front feet are well knuckled, short dense coat in good condition, rust brown markings on the chest could be more defined, trotter, storng sufficiant reach, scissor bite, upper p1 right doubled"

Over all I had a great time, the judge told me he loved Jakes drive. The only thing I would change is me holding jake in the ring and other people baiting him because for me he will listen even in my wheelchair and not get a little out of hand. But for his first time it went great.

Cool, congrats! An SG is great for your first Sieger show. Good luck at future shows!

Thank you very much. It was a good time, I am happy with the way jake looked I just think once he gets used to eing so close to other dogs, even when they are out of hand he will do better...

They don't give V ratings for youth classes... only SG, so your boy did just fine.

I don't know how old your human child is, but handling a large male in a ring with other large males is definitely for grown ups. The males (and many females) will often posture and try to rumble, so having excellent situational awareness and quick reflexes is a must.

Congrats Scott.. It's always good to keep a LOT of distance from other dogs, both in and out of the ring. Congrats on the good rating. I received your entry for our show, so we'll see you in a couple weeks.

Thanks skip.. The judge allowed the fur savors on the choke and also allowed the handlers to have a ball or whatever to help with the dog. Will this be the same at your show. that way I can easily keep his attention. I want to show him I just need a baiter and a runner....if you could help me out with that it would be great......

Fur savers are what all judges allow...on the dead ring usually. Some judges are a little more lenient with the handler in the ring having a ball (etc..) for a very short time, but some don't like the handler's having to "bait" the dog in the ring. Normally they will allow you to take a ball ..etc.. out of a pocket and THROW it to a friend outside the ring to keep the dog's attention. There will be people at our show that will help you with anything you need.

Sounds like he was collected anyways! Congrats on your boy! Do you have pics? Would LOVE to see him!

I cant even imagine a ring full of 18-24 mo males!!! LOL Pooh, Ready to Rumble is right! I would think it would be exhausting just to be in there with one- staying on your toes!
