Changes in feeding schedule for show?

Hi,

I am planning to show my dog in January. Could anyone please tell if there has to be any change in the feeding schedule of the dog for a day before and the D-day itself.

Thnx

Re: Changes in feeding schedule for show?

Usually, I don't feed the dog as much the day before the show...probably about 1/2 to 3/4 as much. I feed my dog twice a day. On the morning of the show, I just feed the dog a very small amount. Not sure what others recommend, but that's what I normally do. Don't know how old your dog is, and a real young dog wouldn't need this, but for 6 weeks prior to a show, we do a lot more exercise, and I add a higher percentage of raw to his food.

Re: Changes in feeding schedule for show?

It depends on the dog. My Fizbin I fed his regular meal and later did I find out that his handler would take and give him even MORE food before going into the ring. Fizbin was very food motivated and my handler didn't use all of his obedience training that he could have to keep Fizbin from snarfing the bait. So he made sure Fizbin was full before going into the ring.
Dogs that are not as food motivated usually are fed less at their meals the night before/ the morning of so that they bait better.

We usually skip the meal the morning of the show, but otherwise feed as normal. I want the dogs to really excited about the bait.

Is this an AKC conformation show or a german style sieger show?
