Re: Ring side comments

I adore watching Show Veterans! They have more enthusiasm and more character than almost ANY newbie to the sport. These dogs have earned their stripes.

I applaud anyone who takes the time and effort to help an old guy/gal relive the old days! They've been there! Done that (!) and are happy to do it again!

Re: Ring side comments

I will never forget speaking to an obedience judge after she judged the obedience classes for a Rottie Specialty here in the Pacific NW. When I saw her, she was laughing and I asked her what was funny. She told me that every dog in her regular obedience classes was lagging and every dog in her Veteran obedience classes was FORGING!!!

Wonder who really had the get up and go and was REALLY happy to be there????? LOL!

Veterans do seem to LOVE going to the shows!

Re: Ring side comments

I just came back from being Chief Ring Steward to the Malamute Club of America Nationals, I have never seen the amount of veterans entered, it was outstanding, all three age groups 15 8 years to 10 years, 9 in the 10 years to 12 years, and 4 in the 12 plus, these were the bitches, dogs were 11 8 to 10, 8 10 to 12, and 7 in the 12 and older, it would have been unthinkable to talk down any of these dogs, who for that day became the once long ago SHOWDOG, they all had smiles and the owners were so very happy to be there, I only hope that someday we see these numbers at our Rottie Nationals, hopefully this can set a trend, we need to truly honor the old ones, because they are the past and have helped us all come into the future...

Re: Ring side comments

Francis, Mike just returned from the Pleasanton specialty. He said that not only were the veterans happy and presented really well, but that one older male got him so choked up that he could barely present the ribbon. There is always somebody who is very happy to see those veterans out there

That must have been Duncan and I. Even though we took second, I was thrilled to be out there. I know the other dog was better- moved better and was in better condition- ie didn't even show his age so taking second was not anything I was disappointed in. Mr. Jackman spent a few moment telling me that Duncan reminded him of a dog he once had. I thought that was very kind of him. Please tell him that I really appreciate him taking the time to say those kind things.

Yup, that was you Francis! Mike had me pull up the show photos online last night and the first thing he said "Did you see the one that looks like Sly?". And it was YOU! He said he got teary eyed watching Duncan in the ring, and that's something that doesn't happen to Mike often!

I know I was choking up myself. I am just so proud of my dog.
I didn't know that there were photos online. Where is that? Please share!
