Yeah I go along with Skip. We've done pretty well with Breeder Judges so those shows mean a little more to me but I don't think I'm willing to say every bigger dog that beats mine is fat. If a judge likes a bigger dog that is in standard thats fine.

Re: AKC fat dogs

Congrats on the reserve!

If it makes you feel any better I had two judges tell my handler that Bella was overweight (which she was).

Now that I have a better eye, I am not sure why some judges place dogs the way they do but my guess is that at least some of the all breed judges either have no clue what the standard is or they are looking at the wrong end of the leash (And in the spirit of full disclosure I know Bella was the recipient of at least one win for that exact reason.)

Re: AKC fat dogs

I like it when judges tell the handlers of fat dogs that their dogs are fat.

God knows too many people think it is the norm, and those of us with 'skinny', aka in shape dogs who often get dumped even though our dogs out move the heavy ones, appreciate a judge that is looking for physical condition, not just shear size when they are making their choice.

The only times I've ever been bothered by judging are the couple of times they completely turn around and dont even watch my dog move. When I know I'm being absolutly ignored for whatever reason I'm not being fairly judged.

Hmmm ... kinda like what happened to me on the weekend with Seeker, who is 13 months old. Her competition was all at LEAST a year older than her (3 were 3 years older than her), but she was the ONLY female moving out in front on the leash and it was HOT this weekend .....

None of the other dogs were fat though, I will give them that, Seeker's lack of maturity was her issue, but the judges didn't even look at her when we went back in the ring for Winner's Bitch competition.
