Rotties with tails in AKC ring?

Ok I am an experienced conformation person and have been out of the ring for a couple of years. I recently purchased a really nice rottie with import lines who is very sound, very correct, has a georgeous head, and has a tail! I love the tail but with my prior knowledge of the AKC rottie ring I was curious if tails are being accepted yet? I am taking him to a match in about two weeks and will watch the rottie ring at that show but he isn't entered. Just curious if any rotties with tails have finished or how some are even doing? All things considered I am extermely pleased with this dog and will most definitely show him in Seiger shows...but what about aKC?

There have been a few shown in AKC with tails. I know of one in the US that has it's CH and a few with points. It is a tough battle with a tail in AKC because in the standard it states dock 1 to 2 vertebre set is more important then length.

Some will say this allows a tail.

You could always try but if you do please remember it will be an up hill rocky ride.

For a couple months at shows that I went to the ones with tails didn't win,but they had falts.And after a couple months they gave up and show them in UKC and German shows which allow it.

there was one handled in some florida shows and elsewhere that i know of that finished. he had a hard time, though. i saw him a few times moved to the back of the ring and barely looked at...even when i thought he was the better one by far!
at the nationals, one was excused.
it's up to judge discretion. i have seen more excused/put in the back than win.
the tail has been a big issue this past year with the ARC.

good luck with your dog, regardless what you do! and remember...in obedience,agility,herding, ect, it does not matter.

which show you are going to? i see you are in florida.

i won't be at tampa or orlando, but my male, dali, will be there with his co-owner handler(she also shows danes). i hope the major holds up in any of the shows...that's all we need. his name is targon's surreal experience.bj will be showing him.
next shows i am doing is DACOF agility in lakeland, end of month, and maybe west palm beach in july-all breed show.
but, good luck! would love to see pix of your dog. if you post often enough, you move to member status and then you can do that.

Hey guys thanks for the info! My boy is a 9 month old and is out of two German imports. His sire is Maik Von Der Frankentanne Sch III, AD, BH, ZtP, ARV Korung, ABST and his dam is Zeke Von Hause Anin Sch III, BH, ZtP, IPO III. Overall I am very pleased with him.
I am trying to learn how to post pictures in the galleries so when I do his pics will be there.

Hi Coyote,

While I understand the constraints one is under with the AKC and showing Rottweilers with tails, the CKC allows for tails as per the Canadian Breed Standard change reflecting the tail.

Currently the Rottweiler Club of Canada has a Specialty being held in Woodstock, ON, Canada on July 14, 2007. Our Judge for this event is Steve Wolfson and we welcome any Rottweiler with a tail to join us for this show.

I was under the impression that Steve Wolfson didn't care for rottweilers with tails. Or am I confusing him with someone else?

Hey guys we took him to the show this weekend just to go to the match and to see what other rottie people thought. We received lots of positive comments and, surprisingly, support to go ahead and enter him. Several handlers and judges looked him over and had positive comments, especially about his head peice and struture. We met the people who finished Dutch , the tailed rottie with an AKC championship, and they thought he was nice enough to compete. We will be in the ring with him soon enough.

They did not give up!!!! The tailed dogs will be returning to the ring shortly. In my opinion the tailed dogs that have been out have a lot less faults then the other dogs in the ring.
