USRC Conformation show tips

We'll be going to a seminar in April, but can anyone point me the direction of or give me tips on handling in a Sieger show? All I keep hearing is be prepared to run. I'm good with that, but run where and how. We'll be doing our first on May 19th and I want to be somewhat ready. We did our first AKC show with little to no help and it did not go well so I'm trying to avoid a repeat.

How old is the dog and what class will you be showing in? Young dogs aren't required to run as much as adults (usually). You will run around the interior of a large outdoor ring. You will run several times....once after the initial examination...then all dogs will run at the same time after all dogs have been examined. Wear comfortable clothing and tennis shoes in the ring. Practice showing the dog's teeth...front bite, sides, and all the way in the back. Have someone along that can help bait your dog from the outside of the ring with a favorite toy to help the dog look alert and attentive.

She's 14 months. So we'll be in the 12-18 month class. No problem showing the bite, we'll have to find something good to bait with. Is like with AKC, where the winners of the respective classes then compete for the youth winner?

Just make sure you don't use any FOOD to bait her...whether it's the person in the ring or the person outside the ring, baiting with FOOD is a big no-no. As far as showing the bite, the judge at a sieger style show usually takes longer and looks closer than AKC shows. You will need to hold the dog's mouth open WIDE at one point so the judge can see way in the back on both sides. Yep, winners of the groups then compete for youth winner. Good luck.

Re: USRC Conformation show tips

I was going to give a reply about what goes on, etc, but my time is short and work calls. Dang. But, if you do a search on Sieger shows or the like, you should be able to find a bunch of posts on it. I know I've written descriptions about the procedures and goings on before.

Good luck, have fun.
