Rotty shows on the east coast?

I heard there is a big show in PA. Is this true and are there any other shows I can bring him to.

You can go to the AKC website to look up show calendars.

Also, Home Page, InfoDog -? The Dog Fancier's Complete Resource for information? AKC Dog Show Events, and Dog Products and Services has a very complete show calendar, just go to their site, click on show information and then either on search by state or their calendar where you can scroll down week by week to see what shows are being held where. You need to visit it frequently, as updates are made as shows are scheduled through the year.

Do you have a breeder that can help you out with getting him ready to show? Are you talking about just taking him to a show or actually showing him? If a dog is not actually entered in an AKC show, then it is not supposed to be on the showgrounds (although I know that many people bring them in anyway, but just wanted to give you a heads up).

Also, I just listed links to the AKC shows, you didn't stipulate if you wanted AKC, ARV, USRC or what type.....

Re: Rotty shows on the east coast?

The CRC (Colonial Rottweiler Club) Specialty is in May of this year - you can go to the AKC website and look up the show details. There are also several all breed shows in New England, especially in Springfield MA throughout the year.

You have to enter most shows at least a month prior to the show - most shows close 2-3 weeks prior to the actual show date.

What does your pups breeder say about showing him?

No, no, no.....you are wrong here. In my opinion, no dog has too much drive to be able to show IF they have the right handler And in some cases that is a BIG "IF" I love a real drivey dog, it makes it so much easier to show them as long as the proper training has been done and they will accept the judge going over them, looking in their mouths, etc.

Have fun!

If your dog is from strong work and show lines, you should consider this:
The biggest Sieger (german style) show just for rotts will be in PA on April 20th thru 22nd. It's the USRC National Sieger Show. It will be a GREAT show. Bring your pup and show it there. Hundreds of rotts. Lots of young dogs showing for the first time. All showing will be outside in large rings. You can show your dog yourself and have a lot of fun. You will get a full, detailed critique of your dog from the judge. Some of the best work/show breeders will be there. Also, there will be seminars, CGC testing, heart and eye testing. Lots more stuff about it can be found at the USRC website. It really is a great time.

You could show him yourself during the critique part, but you will need a second handler to be outside the ring to get his attention. (If you are his favorite person maybe you should attract him and let somebody else hold the leash)
During the running faze someone could run him for you. there are alot of very nice and helpful people at shows like this. I know the people organizing the show (Steve and Samantha Canuso of SPARK) will be able to help you find a runner.

There will be lots of people there that can help you in any phase. Since you are in a wheelchair, I would suggest that you have somebody show him in the ring while you call his name from outside the ring to keep him focused on watching you. I know a lot of owners prefer to be on the outside of the ring to help keep the dog watching and focusing on them. I've seen others in wheelchairs on the outside of rings calling the dog to help keep it focused and show well. There will be several times when the dog will have to run in the ring (on an outside grassy field) to show movement.
