Black & Tan or Black & Rust????

I am having trouble deciding. One minute I think he looks black and tan and the next he looks black & rust. I thought I could get a better decision from you all as I cant seem to make a decision and stick with it. Thanks for the help. John

Re: Black & Tan or Black & Rust????

LOL. See it looks like differing opinions already. Will this present a problem down the road if I was to start competing with him and I select what the judges deem one color but I have him registed as another? Thanks again. John

Re: Black & Tan or Black & Rust????

all three colors are correct so it really doesn't matter.

Re: Black & Tan or Black & Rust????

Looks black and tan to me, not quite dark enough to be rust. But if he's young he may darken. What do his parents look like?

Re: Black & Tan or Black & Rust????

I never got pictures of his parents. I ended up getting my Rottie as I was leaving North Carolina and it was in kind of a rush. I am headed back for a trip there at the end of Dec and plan on going over his parents more in depth and getting a lot of pictures of them. John

Re: Black & Tan or Black & Rust????

Well, dunno about the rest of you but, my dogs colors were both already listed by the breeder. I decided the name and sent the papers in. Both my dogs sire(s) and dam(s) are listed as BLK/MHG.

What does it list as the color of his parents? The breeder should have listed color on the litter registration. So, it should also be on the papers you'll be regesterring. I'd go with what they are. If you have a parent MHG and the other RST or TAN, go with your best judgement.

PS: Tho I would call your pup tan, now, they do tend to darken up quite a bit as they mature. All 3 colors are correct. I have never seen a judge even look at the listed color, so unless he ends up black and green, I think you should be safe.

Re: Black & Tan or Black & Rust????

Actually, I would think THIS http://www.rottweiler.net/gallery/fi...ndhanna006.jpg is tan.

That is why I would call THIS http://www.rottweiler.net/gallery/fi...8/3/Spiro2.jpg rust.

comparing them side by side I would think that you really couldn't call the OP's dog tan, could you?

Right, that dog is tan....but it is a mixed breed. When you are thinking in Rottie terms, I have never seen one that is that light.
