Conformation intrest [font=Tahoma][color=Sienna]My wife and I went to a conformation show in May of this year in our home state of Louisiana and fell head over heels with the way things were done. Now I have concidered the possibilities of coformation training for my pup and I. As an indivisual what can I start doing to prepare my pup and myself for the future? ![]()

Teach the pup to stand stay. Condition the pup to allow you to show the bite. Socialize the pup, put it in a stand stay and have friendly dog people run thier hands down the pups back while itstands. Then join a conformation class.

Talk to her breeder as well - I'm sure they canpoint you in the right direction as to the who and what you'll need help with - maybe they will even offer to help get her ready.... It ain't cheap and it ain't easy....lots of disappointment before the victories!

I am aware of the disappointments and the cost. This is a money costing hobby, but it pays in the end. I have been searching for a club to join, but no luck on getting in. I may have to call AKC for info.

| visit the akc website. akc.org check for all breed and specialty clubs in your state. check for local training groups and see which are part of a club. also..go to infodog.com events are listed with locations, club info, show info. train.get familier with the breed standard.talk to your breeder. check out some good books in the book store on showing your dog. and...there is more than just conformation shows...there's obedience, rally, agility, herding, etc.

I agree with targonrotts. In fact there's a big All-Breed club in New Orleans and another in Baton Rouge. These clubs can help you with dog training and probably handler training also. At the AKC web site, I noticed that the New Orleans club has it's own website listed there. Check it out. Terry
