Re: white on chest

Athena lost her white mark on her within a month or so. I got her at 8 or 9 weeks. Right before 2nd fear period. The mark was just gone 1 day.

I even picked her out becuase she had that mark ( and was the largest female in the litter), just like my late Sasha did.

It's a flaw ( sever flaw I believe? when showing), but I wasn't planning on showing her, so I did not care about it being a flaw. She was completely a pet quality dog and fixed after first heat.

Its a flaw and if its a patch of white i cant say i have ever seen it disapere but a few hairs on the chest of a puppy i have seen disapere .. guess i depends on how much is there. But you certainly wouldnt breed from it if it was a patch of white hair.

Even if the spot disappears, still shouldn't be bred, in my opinion. It WILL show up later down the line in future litters.

I totally agree with you Gretchen! I know of a rottweiler, locally that is not only being shown (as a special since he is finished ), but he is being bred and he has a white spot on his chest. I recently saw a picture of this particular male and a couple of his littermates some of which also had white on their chest (one had quite a bit).

I personally wouldn't buy a dog with white on it's chest if I was planning on showing or breeding it.

It depends on how much white. A white mark is a serious fault. A few white hairs is not considered a mark and is not faulted. It certainly not something that you want to double up on. One possible way to tell if it will stay is if the skin is a lighter color under the spot then the surrounding skin.
If the breeder suggests that you can "hide" the spot with chalk, shoe polish or other, RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: white on chest

i've seen small spot,no bigger than a pencil eraser on pups up to 2 months go away.
a few white hairs usually go by 3 1/2 months.anything bigger stands a chance of staying.
like mentioned by fbkeays, if breeder suggest to color it in or other hidding method, run!
