where to research bloodlines

I'm sure it is probably covered somewhere on the site, but I have not seen it. I'd like to research Bear's lineage or bloodline, but do not know the best place to do so, or the best method to use. I got his papers when we adopted him, so I have some information, but I'd like to know more. He is ours now, for better or worse, but if there are health problems in his lineage, it'd be helpful to know so that we could be especially vigilant, to either prevent them or at least mitigate them as well as possible.

Re: where to research bloodlines

try searching his parents names on PawVillage.com & the Online Pedigree Database (tm) and Orthopedic Foundation for Animals

Post Re: where to research bloodlines

What is Bears registered name? What are the names of his sire and dam?
Write the names exactly as they are written. You can start by by to the ofa site and see if any of his pedigree have had health certs. Orthopedic Foundation for Animals
You can also go to pawvillage and see if there is any mention of his sire or dam or siblings.

Also some of the forum members may be familiar with the dogs in his bloodlines.

Re: where to research bloodlines

Mboro, I am not sure if this will help but I got a 3 generation pedigree when I transferred Moose's AKC papers. I typed in different names in google that were in his background and found a good deal of info on his geneology. I found more on his mother's side then his fathers side.

Re: where to research bloodlines

Thanks folks. I'll get his papers out and post his full name (sort of goofy) and the names listed on his papers for the sire and dam, and possibly some of their lines.

Bear is from central Kentucky, just above Bowling Green.

Re: where to research bloodlines

His full name is Bear Max Neo Tweedy. Tweedy is the name of his original family, we have no idea where "Neo" came from. We adopted him in November. Should we send in and have his last name changed to ours?

We could not format this so that it looked like the AKC certificate, this is the best we could come up with.

Bear Max Neo Tweedy, Sire: Harley Lee Allen, Dam: Sheilanes Blossom Lahope

Harley Lee Allen, Sire: Drake Jewel of Von Haven Deming , Dam: Sheilane's Sarah McCubbin

Sheilanes Blossom Lahope, Sire: M & M Maximum Foxabouts, Dam: M & M Lacie LaHope

Drake Jewel of Von Haven Deming, Sire: Chewbocka Von Haven Deming, Dam: Kira Princess of Jewels

Sheilane's Sarah McCubbin, Sire: Onxy Superior McCubbin, Dam: Sheilane's K-Cola Lahell

M & M Maximum Foxabouts, Sire: CCR Ahrens-Fox Von Lydeco, Dam: Croweabouts Broken Heart

M & M Lacie LaHope, Sire: George's Gentlemen Gem, Dam: Wolf Gang Boos

Re: where to research bloodlines

We didn't like the Name that Moose had when we bought him. We changed his name with the AKC. As long as they haven't sired a litter you can change the name one time.

Re: where to research bloodlines

Mboro, We're really big Neil Young fans and we changed his name to Greendale's Four Strong Winds. It's nothing like what his name was before. I called the AKC first to make sure the name was available and it was and it made us happy to be able to change it.

Greendale was a Neil Young Rock Concert we saw and Four Strong Winds is a song he made popular even though he didn't write it.

Re: where to research bloodlines

We did find CCR Ahrens-Fox Von Lydeco, and we found a von Haven Deming Rottweiler, on paw village, but we did not find any of the others.

We may have Max Neo Tweedy changed, or at least Neo Tweedy. It doesn't really matter, he's Bear.

Re: where to research bloodlines

Mboro, I know what you mean about the name. Moose is still called Moo by us. I just think it's cool to have a name for him that we both like.

It looks like your rescue comes from a long line of BYB dogs. The important thing is to enjoy him and make him the best dog you can.

That was always the intent. My interest in his lineage was for his benefit, not for the purpose of establishing his value or breeding him.

Re: where to research bloodlines

Madame Nikki Of Bobars Shadow is Moose's Grandmother on his Mother's side. I was able to find some of his relatives on Paw Village using this name. He doesn't come from any champion lines but it was fun to check it out.
