| Is there a way to find out the pedigree? Hello, I always wanted but for reasons that we are all familiar like work , kids, lack of space etc. etc. anyway we moved to a great house with a greatbackyard and I was fainally ready to buy a rottie little did I know my brother got one as a gift for my birthday(he was 8 weeks old) he has been a great addition to my family he just turn one and he is a spoil dog who gets a lot of attention from my three kids and not to mention my wife. He is well behave and my 7 year old and him are inseparable. anyways my brother bught him from his friend so I'm told and this "freind"who is supposed to be a breeder drop off the radar and I'm left with the question how do I get my dog's pedigree info?. I got him with no papers, I know I should known better but It didn't cross my mind untill recently. is there anyway to check the DNA. is that even possible or aveilable. Please let me know. |

| Re: Is there a way to find out the pedigree? Without papers, he is more than likely unregistered. Regardless, if you don't have ANY information about his parents (ie ... were THEY registered? What were their names?) you will never be able to track parentage and/or pedigree. There are some 'breeders' who sell their litters out of AKC registered parents without papers, ultimately, if you don't find that info out at the time of purchase, you are not likely ever going to find it out. | Re: Is there a way to find out the pedigree? If you don't have papers than it is unlikely your dog'd parents are registered (or health tested). Registries are the #1 place to look for your dog's pedigree and people who put the time and effort into researching pedigrees of the dogs they breed will be the people that only sell registered pups. My guess is that you'll never know your dog's heritage. the Orthopedic foundation for animals has a DNA database but only as it pertains to certain genetic diseases, my understanding is it's not a database that holds the DNA "codes for every registered dog in order to prove/disprove paternity. I also understand that there is such a thing as doggy paternity testing but I believe this is more used for cases when a litter of puppies may be sired by two or more males and a breeder would like to know for registration and pedigree purposes. It's not a searchable database.

| If he was sold without papers he comes from BYB. You will never know the pedigree. Love him, enjoy him, train him and have him neutered....please don't think of breeding him.Gina
