| Re: Newbie question about buying from Germany hopefully, you breeder docked the entire litter and not just half, I know the usrc would not allow a pup to show with/without tail unless the entire litter is done. ps all rotties have german bloodlines. did you mean the dam is imported????????? |

| Re: Newbie question about buying from Germany Again, Punnett squares only work for straightforward Mendelian dominant/recessive traits, which hip dysplasia IS NOT. HD is polygenetic, it is coded for on multiple genes, and even geneticists have trouble predicting inheritance patterns with polygenetic traits.

| Re: Newbie question about buying from Germany Which puts us into the position: the best predictor of HD is the prevalence of HD in the parent line, no? I presume this is true of the heart defect to which Rotts are susceptible. I thank everyone who has attempted to help me!! |

| Re: Newbie question about buying from Germany Yes, but also of siblings of parents. Because it is polygenetic, both depth and breadth of pedigree health testing can be relevant (a dog with fair hips but with ancestors and siblings with good or excellent hips is a better gamble genetically for good hips than a dog with excellent hips but with predominantly dysplastic or fair siblings and ancestors). Straightforward Mendelian dominant/recessive prediction models do not account for polygenetic traits like HD.

| Re: Newbie question about buying from Germany I know of a Male pup out of Freya that had a grade 4 Heart Murmur at 6 months old. Just thought I'd let you know! |
