East Coast Stud dogs

Warning. I expect respondants to be respectful and pleasant PLEASE

Irrespective of venue (AKC or german style, SCH, Obedience, agility or conformation.etc....)

Irrespective of docked or not

Irrespective of titles earned

What stud dogs or youth males that will be stud dogs do you like

I'm talking not about hard as nails "look how hard he can bite", I'm talking about structure, health of line, soundness, health testing, sanity, high intelligence, trainability and a temperament that is public and child safe.

If you have a dog you like please include why

I am eager to hear answers to this. I know too little really to give an answer but I would really like to learn about what males people like and why.

What a great question! It will be very educational to read how people assess those qualities and which dogs are strong in those areas.

(We won't ever be breeding, but this is still great for learning.)

Cool Re: East Coast Stud dogs

I'd like to be first to reply. Bilalian Acres Northern Dancer ( Drog ) is not a very well known name but he has a lot to offer. He is health tested, he has titles ( youth and adult Sieger, UCI International Champion, AKC Champion ) and his owner is a really fair and honest guy. He is a World Champion's son ( Bronko Dragicevica ) and he passes down a LOT of what Bronko had to offer. He produces head and bone second to none along with a very stable temperment. If you want that typey Rottweiler head, very large bone, nice dark markings, he can give you that. Movement ... he reminds me of your basic hard working construction worker. Goes to work with his lunch pail and puts in a good hard days work. Stud fees are very reasonable.

I have a Drog son and I'm very happy with him. I guess you can check my profile and get to my pictures if you want to see my Drog son. He will be 2 years old on May 6th and I have had no health problems. He has been shown in German style shows 7 times and except for his first show at 5 months old he has always been highly rated including a VP-2, VP, V-3, V-2, and SG in two shows where the judge didn't give a higher rating because of age ( under two years old ) . He has done very well and he didn't cost me a fortune.

My best friend has a Drog daughter and she has done even better in all of her shows with multiple 1st place finishes. I would, and I may breed to him in the future as I have seen what he produces.

There are a lot of very nice studs here on the East coast. I guess it depends on what you have to breed to them as to what results you get. Thanks for letting me post my opinion

Re: East Coast Stud dogs

ok. i will include one. i will add Ch.Carter's Noble Shaka Zulu. apart from being the most winning rottweiler in the history of our breed(most best in shows) and being a nice looking dog he is a sweetheart of a dog in temperament. he has beautiful movement, nice structure, and very even temperament.
the owner/breeder/handler is a great guy. we keep in contact as i update him on the progress of the 2 kidz i got from him with my bitch, hailey.

Gala, the daughter, will be 3 next week, she has accquired a CH,CD,RA,FDX,CS,CGC,RTD,OA,NAJ,2007 SEGER MEDALLION VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR AWARD. and still collecting titles. she has done agility, obedience, conformation, flyball, therapy.

Dali, the son, and up and coming youth stud, started later than his sister, but needs one major for his CH with limited showing, has his CD,RE,RTD,CGC and is in training and getting ready for flyball, agility and going for more.

there are many great up and upcoming youth dogs. not all advertise or show all the time. it takes looking out for them, getting info, and getting to meet them. many people get stuck on the same popular dogs and forget to check out the up and coming youth.
great thread idea, if we can keep it clean and honest.

Rottidox "This Bud's for You", he produces wonderful pups with great temperments. They are located in Michigan so are not truly East Coast.

Re: East Coast Stud dogs

Boy, this is a tough one, Diane. The last breeding I did was to BIS,BISS A/C CH Mileah's Egyptian Blu (he passed away a short while ago). My litter was very consistant, I kept a bitch who is now 5 and she has done everything I asked of her A/C CH CD RE HSAs CS CI CX one leg on her CDX and on Herding Intermediate. Blu produced very consistant litters, nice bone, excellent type and temperament, excellent toplines and most important to me, Blu had flawless movement and seems to pass it on.

In looking for stud dogs it is very difficult to find a perfect package with bloodlines that give what you want. It is easy to get great temperament, great heads, it seems a little harder to find excellent toplines and correct movement. If you do find all this then the pedigree gives pause.

Re: East Coast Stud dogs

agree Carol, agree..

What I'm finding is I find a dog that looks and sounds nice but the pedigree gives me pause and/or the health certs are not what i want in the dog or the relations

Re: East Coast Stud dogs

Another one from the Michigan area which I personally like and have had the opportunity to meet in person......A/C Ch Avatar Luck of the Draw CDX "ACE"~~ very honest dog, fantastic movement, great work ability, outstanding temperament, fully health tested.

The show I was fortunate enough to meet him at~~ people warned me to keep away as he had a "bad temperament". I went up to meet him myself and found him to have a wonderful temperament, great with people or other dogs.

I don't believe he has very many litters on the ground right now, so its hard to say what he would be producing. I have only seen one Ace daughter up here in Canada and she's stunning. Did well as a puppy and I believe just recently won a V 1 rating and a 'YS title.

Owner is very nice, and I believe handles him to his working titles herself and I believe also does therapy work with him. One of my favorites!!!

Re: East Coast Stud dogs

Unfortunately, there is no perfect dog, so I think it's important to note that the bitch has a lot to do with how the get turns out. Overall, temperament and health are the first things I look for. Next comes conformation. I feel it's a bit easier to fix a physical fault here and there than to fix hard wired temperament and severe health issues. (I also believe there are genetic links between all of these that cross over)

One boy that comes to mind as one of my favorites is Dasko vom Eisentor. He made Gold Sire status in what I would consider limited breedings for a top 10 dog. He has a very strong temperament and strongly passes on his traits to his progeny.

I own a daughter of his, and what a special girl she is! Overall, the progeny I have seen from him seem to have very consistent and strong temperaments overall. Their trainability is phenomenal, and their prey drive desire to work rates the same in my book. Health is there as well. His progeny has been titled in nearly every venue from Herding, SchH. OB, Agility, Conformation, Service, etc... so that speaks volumes to me as well.

I like a several of his sons as well.

I've just gotten my Brito od Dragicevica babies on the ground, and I like what he's produced with the Dasko lines, so we shall see what becomes of these sweet little urchins.

Re: East Coast Stud dogs

Thanks E. I was meaning living dogs though and sadly since Brito is gone he'll just be frozen now.

Frozen is a whole different ball of wax for me anyway

Yes, Brito passed quite unexpectedly very recently. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to Jerry.

Dasko is alive and kicking, though, and according to his veterinarian "has the sperm of a 1 year old" at over 9 years of age. That to me says a lot about a dog as well.

Not to get off topic, but using the frozen worked out very well for us on this particular breeding with 9 vigorous pups on the ground. I want natural for maiden voyagers, because I feel that the desire and ability to reproduce naturally hold a lot of bearing on the breed's vigor as a whole. Libido is instrumental in survival. I threw good money after bad learning that lesson the hard way a few years back. With medical technology such that it is today, we have access to dogs we might not have a few years back, which is not necessarily a bad thing.

Re: East Coast Stud dogs

i second dasko!
we have a son and daughter from him(my friend does, who used to breed with me).
strong temperament, trainability, smart, nice mover and toplines.

so sorry about brito! first news to me. our sympathies to jerry. we were there when he went best of breed in arc nationals orlando, fl 2007.

and yes, it is not just the stud, but what the bitch has to offer. you might get great puppies in one combination and not too good in another. even with a repeat breeding things can go different.

What did Brito die from? A friend of mine used Brito on her bitch, just produced a singleton puppy....then the puppy died at 4 weeks of age.

Not meaning to go off topic again (sorry Diane!)

Cancer of the spleen. It spread to his liver, I believe, but when Jerry told me about it, he was still very understandably upset and having a hard time talking about it.

Singleton litters happen to the best of us! Singleton might be because the bitch absorbed pups... Pooh did that with her only pregnancy. Her thyroid dropped mid term. Other hormonal fluctuations can cause this as well as stress, or a myriad of other reasons... Did your friend have a necropsy done on the pup? That's the only way your friend will know the cause of death.
