| Breeding Just about anything related to breeding should go here. Please remember, litter announcements are fine, but puppies/dogs for sale, through posts or links, are strictly prohibited. The discussion of breeders is not permited. |

| Breeder not telling the truth? Help Me We lost our dog a few months ago to cancer. We were completely devastated. Even though we had moved across the country from our original breeder, we had the idea of contacting them in the hope of possibly getting a puppy out of a litter from one of her blood relatives. This way we always have a little piece of our girl with us again. When we contacted the breeder they said that we were in luck and one of her sisters had been bred on Feb 21and the litter would be due on Apr 28. We were first in line for a male and couldn't wait for the litter to be born. The breeders were being very nice in selling us one of the puppies at a discounted rate (what we were charged 7 years ago) for having gone through what we did with our puppy passing away. The breeder emailed me on Mar 18 and said that they just got back from the vet and the ultrasound showed no puppies and that she was not indeed pregnant. We were devastated once again. She said that we had an alternative. She had bred one of her studs to a dam and would be receiving a pup from that litter for the stud fee. While not a blood relative of our girl they would have some distant similarities in the kennels breeding. We decided that we would go for it with the other litter not coming through. Then she said that the puppy that she thinks would be great for us has an overbite that we would not be able to breed and would we mind. I told her that we trust her to do what is right for us. We sent her a check for the whole amount the next day. So she took him and is waiting to ship him to us. Now I was just reading on their website that the litter that had supposedly not taken was in fact being born today- 3 males and a female. The announcement of the breeding never left it's spot on their site this whole time after they told us that the preganancy didn't take. The breeder contacted me by email and said she can't beleive what is happening with the litter being born. Now I'm upset that this is happening. One of these male puppies should be ours. That was the deal. I don't think that this is right that we are getting this other puppy on the premise that the litter wasn't happening and it is. I think we should be entitled to what was promised to us. Having a blood relative of our precious dog that meant everything to us would make us extremely happy in souch a tough time. Is it possible to start the breeding and wait until the 30 days for the ultrasound and there to see nothing at all. Then nothing to transpire over the next month or so to make you believe that the dog is still preganat, Then the dog delivers 4 puppies pretty close to the due date. Does something just not sound right? Please share with me your wisdom. I'm at a loss and desperate for your help. Thanks |

| Re: Breeder not telling the truth? Help Me I think this breeder is being dishonest with you. Raise a big fuss, and either get a dog from the litter you were promised or get your money back. I wouldn't be dealing with this person again. |

| Re: Breeder not telling the truth? Help Me I HAVE heard of situations where puppies are not visible on an ultrasound when there is a smaller litter (such as 4) at 30 days. However given the fact that they are now born....I should think that the breeder should offer you a pup from that original litter that you had thought didn't take. What raises HUGE flags for me is the fact that her so called "stud fee return puppy" is a puppy that has an overbite? What the heck type of breeder would take a pet qual puppy back from an outside breeding? Typically the stud dog owner would get a show pick male or female whatever had been agreed to prior to the breeding. And I would think that in event that the entire litter had disqualifying faults then the stud dog owner should take the stud fee money in lieu of a puppy.I would get my money back and keep searching!! | Re: Breeder not telling the truth? Help Me I often take the glass is half full approach not everyone is a con artist as shown on tv. With that, It often takes people months to update a website.... So instead of putting words to your frustration, why don't you give her a call. If she gives you the run around then take you business somewhere else. You did already got a dog with a shortened life span form her. You loved her regardless but shortened. A different breeder might give you a better experience. And you will always love YOUR dog. Good luck |

| Re: Breeder not telling the truth? Help Me It actually is fairly common for pups not to show up on a 30 day ultrasound which is why some have gone to using the blood test to determine pregnancy then x-raying the week the pups are due for a "count". The pup stud fee could have happened because the litter it came from could have been small such as 1 male, 1 female or the overbite came in later (after she received it) or...or...or... If the breeder e mailed you, it does not appear that she is trying to "hide" the litter you were expecting a pup from. What did she say when you told her that you would like to go back to the original plan, i.e., a male from the litter you had reserved? |

| Re: Breeder not telling the truth? Help Me instead of email back and forth, i would call the breeder, ask these questions, and try to resolve it. sometimes things can be misunderstood or not communicated right(especially in emails). yes, it can be possible not to see pups in a ultrasound at 30 days if a small litter, tech not experienced, old equipment(harder to see). even with the blood test. i have had dogs come back negative at 30 days, and have 12 pups at day 63! does not always happen, but it has.

| Re: Breeder not telling the truth? Help Me from personal experience with a lab breeder, the ultrasound seems to have about a 50% failure in terms of spotting pregnancy at 30 days. she always had it done, as a routine thing, but never trusted it. and i'd say call your breeder, point out what was agreed to (a puppy from the just born litter) and ask for either a pup from this litter, or your money back. if it turns out it's an honest mistake (don't think it's likely, but i'll give benefit of the doubt) all is fine. if not, study, and find yourself a reputable breeder. there still are some out there. |

| Re: Breeder not telling the truth? Help Me I don't know anything about breeding, or stud fee's, or ultra sounds......but I DO know what being screwed around looks like!! After reading everybody's posts it does seem reasonably possible that it was an honest mistake. (?) But the fact that after the litter was born you were not automatically offered the dog you were promised makes me think you should try to get your money back & look elsewhere. Also, I think the initial offer sounded a little suspect as well; You will get the 'pick of the litter' at a discounted rate?? Why? Because of what happened to your dog? Sounds like a nice gesture, no doubt.......but it looks like that's not panning out. And things being as they are, I would think you should be getting some of your money back, since you were originally getting 'A' quality for a promised 'B' price. But now you're getting 'B' quality.......shouldn't that make it a 'C' price??? Basically, shouldn't you still get the discount you were promised??? I don't know, this sounds like the classic 'bait & switch' routine to me. Just my humble opinion, MK P.S. I just lost my girl to bone cancer two weeks ago. I know how you feel........ ![]()
