Breeder Dont Want to Answer Questions?

I found a breeder that seemed to have a good site. That had health tested dog. That also had champions and other working titles. So I emailed her with some basic questions not on her site. She replied and was very rude. She had puppies available and pretty much said.If I wasnt going to buy on of the available puppies I was wasting her time. I said I was just looking at breeder. It would probably be next year. I still havent decided on breeder or rescue yet.

So didnt want to answer my question's. She Imported most of her dogs. She wasnt to far away from me so I thought it would be great. Her puppies were 1800 so I was going to ask questions. To me it seemed like a BYB. What Do you all think. She didnt ask me one questions

Post Re: Breeder Dont Want to Answer Questions?

Most important thing to remember is that websites mean nothing. A crappy breeder can have the best website....and you can be dazzled...as well as a great breeder can have no website or not much of one and have the best dogs.
Just means someone has good computer skills or can pay to have a nice website made.

You say this breeder imports all of the dogs? Do they put any titles on the dogs themselves? any conformation or working titles? Anyone with money can buy these dogs.
What health certifications does the breeder have on the dogs? Is it for hips, elbows, eyes and heart? Go to the OFA website Orthopedic Foundation for Animals and put in the sire and dams names...they should have all of the health certs there.

Most breeder are very happy to answer questions...and they of course should be asking you questions. If all they wanted to do was sell a puppy...then I would be running.

You're going to have a long-term relationship with your breeder. You'll want that person to have time for you. This breeder sounds as tho she doesn't have any time for you.

I'd keep looking.

Definitely keep looking! If they don't have time for your questions, this would be a red flag. When we were looking and waiting for Max, I must have sent a dozen emails and each time, they came back longer than mine!! A good breeder will want to talk to you and answer your questions. How are they going to know you're going to be a good placement if they don't?

Re: Breeder Dont Want to Answer Questions?

I see you are in TN. There is one "breeder" in TN that has been talked about on this forum. Just make sure this woman is not associated with ThunderValley Rottweilers. If that is so........RUN FOREST, RUN!!!

You do not have to post this breeders name, in fact don't, just so you don't break the forum rules. I mentioned this one as this breeder became a public notoriety.

Re: Breeder Dont Want to Answer Questions?

Bloodlines, titles, health testing, availability... all that is important. But over the last few years I've come to the conclusion that my single biggest question regarding a breeder is this:

Do I want this person and their dogs in or near my life for the next 10+ years?

If I can't honestly say "yes" to that, and if I don't also believe that they will want to remain a part of my life for at least the lifetime of the dog they sell me... I'll keep looking.

Were you looking for pet quality or show quality? If pet quality, $1800 sounds pricey.

Regardless, you don't need to deal with a breeder who doesn't have time to answer your questions.

Re: Breeder Dont Want to Answer Questions?

I would not spend one more moment of time with this breeder ! When I began my search for a breeder I finally after almost a year, found what I was looking for. She was glad answer my many emails, talk on the phone, invited us to spend as much time as we needed looking at and interacting with the puppies, asked for at least a monthly update and pics of the puppy in addition to wanting to know any classes, certifications etc etc the puppy received.

In my humble opinion any reputable breeder will be wiling to spend the time and make the effort to make sure the new owner is suitable for a rottie pup and also well educated on the breed.

Keep looking ….it may take a bit of time but you will find what you are looking for !

Re: Breeder Dont Want to Answer Questions?

Marley55 said exactly what I was thinking!!! You want a breeder that will be there for the life of the dog. In fact, I still talk to the breeder of my first rottie girl. I got her in the early 00's as an adult from a co-worker. She passed around the age of twelve. In my search for a rottie pup over the past year I contacted her breeder to see if she had any available pups. The breeder wasn't breeding at the moment but helped me in my search for a pup anyway. I didn't know this person until last year!!! I let her know that I took over ownership of one her own years ago and for that I was made family!! I really wish I had thought of contacting them before I had dealt my BYB ordeal, but you live and learn.

COE's care about the breed, their pups and anyone looking for more info on the breed and/ or their pups! At least from my experience.

Re: Breeder Dont Want to Answer Questions?

That was my thought as well. No the breeder isnt that breeder. I am wanting pet quality female. She will be spayed. I just have so many problems with Kane's Hips. I'm scared that if I get another dog from rescue. It will have hip problems as well. Then I think As of now Diesel dont have issues(knocks on wood lol). I want a breeder who I can email with any questions.Even 10yrs after I have Her.
