If they're anything like their parents and grandparents, the puppies should have great temperaments, with high energy and drive. They should also have great bone and substance with outstanding head pieces.

I can't wait !!

Re: Roslar Breeding Announcement

Thanks guys. I am so thrilled about this breeding.

I was VERY pleased with the puppies I got out of Stella and Pepper in 2006, (which was a complete outcross). So I decided to breed Stella to Quaid, not only because Quaid is similar to Pepper, but it's a line breeding on Rudi (CH Von Gailingen's Matinee Idol).

I swear Quaid was a clown in a previous life. So I'm looking forward to seeing what he can produce from this breeding. If the puppies turn out with his personality, the puppies will be great.

Re: Roslar Breeding Announcement

Concerning the sire: I didn't see a passing OFA rating for elbows...all I saw mentioned for elbows in OFA was "DEGENERATIVE JOINT DISEASE I UNILATERAL LEFT".

Concerning the dam: I didn't see a passing OFA rating for elbows...all I saw mentioned for elbows in OFA was "DEGENERATIVE JOINT DISEASE".

Also, the dogs need more working titles besides a "PRE-trial test".

Re: Roslar Breeding Announcement

You are absolutely right Skippy, Quaid has 1 normal elbow and 1 Lvl 1 elbow. And Stella has Lvl 1 elbows. But all FOUR Grandparents have clear elbows.

So tell me.................did you scream this loudly at Redwood Krest when they bred Shane's mother without an elbow clearance? Usually people that don't report elbows to OFA now days mean they don't clear either.

The name is Skip, and there is no shouting from me. I believe Gipsy had a grade 1 in one elbow, and I saw her work with no issues at all. The sires were all clear. Both had plenty of titles on the front and rear also. I would not have considered Shane's breeding if both had a questionable elbow issue. I'm questioning why you did. Also, Shane's breeding came from parents with excellent working titles. I was questioning why yours didn't.

Re: Roslar Breeding Announcement

Congratulations on this breeding! Nice pedigree. Best of luck for a healthy pregnancy, and babies on the radar in 30 days!

Skip, are you familiar with the "Evolution of a Dog Hobbyist"?

The first 5 years, a dog hobbyist doesn't know squat.

The second 5 years, a dog hobbyist has learned enough to be dangerous, and thinks he knows it all.

The third 5 years, a dog hobbyist realizes he doesn't know squat, and mends any fences he can.

The fourth 5 years, a dog hobbyist understands that there is more to learn than he can ever know, yet he maintains a humble, respectful and open mind... He also realizes that there are folks out there that have forgotten more than he will EVER know, and that applies to all of us!

And that, my friend in dogs, is the evolution of a dog hobbyist. Which 5 years are you in?

Re: Roslar Breeding Announcement

First of all, if you notice in the original post, I did NOT hide the fact that Quaid and Stella did not have elbows. Go back and read it again. And ftr, I would not have done this breeding if there weren't clear elbows on their parents.

Also for the record, both Quaid and Stella's elbows were evaluated by an Orthopedic Specialist and given a clear reading. He actually had the x-rays in his hand when he did the evaluation. NOT like OFA, who scans the x-rays and sends pictures out on the computer for the radiologists to evaluate.

Second..................what's working to you, and what's working to me are two COMPLETELY different things. I do NOT believe in Schutzhund for my dogs. Rottweilers were not originally bred for searching blinds, biting a sleeve or running next to a bicycle for however many miles. They were bred for Herding.

Quaid is a Champion in TWO countries. Quaid and Stella are working on other 'working' titles. I just haven't competed with them in the ring. There is plenty of time.......they're not dead yet.

And you go ahead and justify Shane's mother all you want. I will not get into an argument with you. This is my FINAL answer.

Thanks you Elisabeth !! I'm always nervous until I know for sure that the girls are pregnant. Then I worry until the whelping. Then I wonder why I put myself through this. Then I see those beautiful black and tan bundles and KNOW why I put myself through it.

Re: Roslar Breeding Announcement

Your "5 years" is someone's opinion. I have the same state of mind I've had for a LOT of years. Learning more and more. Asking more and more. Training more and more. Showing more and more. Titling more and more. I have no problems asking questions here. I ask the same questions to people in person about their breedings that I consider friends. I'm far from an expert. I've never bred a litter. This could be another learning experience for me here, and I always leave that door open. If both parents have elbow issues, and there are no working titles, I would like to be educated on why this breeding took place. Really, my mind is open here. I realize some dogs have done very well in the show ring, and congratulations to them all, but I have a lot more questions when it comes to breeding. That will always be part of my "evolution", no matter who the person is.

Very good answer, Skip. Asking questions to be educated is wonderful. Asking questions that hinge on the edge of critical could probably be reworded in a way which tells folks you want to be educated not confrontational.

That doesn't sound like a comment from someone who wishes to learn. That sounds like a confrontational comment.

The "Evolution" thing really does ring true - whether you're in dogs or some other hobby/interest, this is an inherent human behavior, especially when we start to get good at things. Humility can be a good thing, and personally, I have no interest in participating in any egofests.

Anton, again, congrats on the breeding!

I agree. I know my posts many times should be more in a questioning manner. I'll make a stronger attempt. In the meantime, my question (and my education) about this breeding stands open. Also, I don't consider schutzhund the only measure of a working dog, and I never stated this. I just didn't see anything else listed except a pre-test. I will say that I don't buy into the "the dogs aren't dead yet, and I'm working on the working titles". REALLY not trying to be overly critical here, it is just that (in my opinion) these should be proven before breeding.

Re: Roslar Breeding Announcement

With the busy lives most of us live, it is sometimes difficult to get all those working titles by the time you want to breed the dog. If you are working with your dogs and just haven't gotten the time to put the titles on I see nothing wrong with this. You know what there abilities are and if they meet the criterea of a working dog. I'm familiar with several of Laura's dogs and believe me they can work.
