Purebred or mix?

I got my rotti from a shelter when she was about 5.5 months old. At the time, she was 35 lbs. Now she's about 2yrs 8 months, and she weighs in at about 77lbs. Her height is about 22", and she has a full tail. When looking at pictures of other rotti's and seeing other rotti's in parks, she looks the same as all of them. Same body structure, face, ears, markings.....except for 1 thing. She has a spot of white on her chest.

I've heard this is common in many rotti's and the shelter even told me that she could possibly have some type of mix such as a German Shepherd somewhere along her bloodlines, but she's most like 99.99999% pure rotti. Does anyone here know about this or have the same chest marking on their rotti??

Re: Purebred or mix?

My Gary was born with a white patch on his chest. After he blew his puppy coat, only a very small amount of white remains on his chest. You really can only see it if you get up close to him and actually look for it.

It is a fault in the breed, but I do think it happens even from pure bred litters.

Re: Purebred or mix?

My girl is about 9 months now, and weighs 88+lbs. She is by no means over weight though.
Anyway I had the same question and started a thread. My girl has brindle where the brown rottie marks would be, and a small white spec on her chest. Her brothers (she had 2) both had regular rottie marks, she was the only other pup.

Everyone is telling me that she is a cross somewhere along the line.

White spots can happen in "pure" breds if by this you mean two Rotts breed. It may be only one in a litter but it happens.

Yeah in my puppy's litter he was the only one with the mark. Because of this we don't get his registration papers until we have him neutered, and we got him at a discount lol. At least the place I got my puppy from is somewhat responsible for being a puppy mill, as they require people to neuter faulted pets.

Re: Purebred or mix?

Your pup is young! 5.5 months is young enough for most, if not all of it to still shed out.

Does NOT mean she is not a purebred. Nor does it mean she is unregisaterable...IF you had the paperwork from the breeder..

Since she's a shelter dog, you probably won't have any papers available to you. You CAN get an ILP (indefinate listing privelege) thru AKC for the preformance venues. It looks framable.

You need a downloadable form thru AKC, and 1 frontal pose, and 1 side pose. I don't recall what it costs... $20, sticks in my mind.

I don't think an ethical breeder would allow a pup to end up in the shelter!!Bt who knows, it could be one of those "run of the mill" breeders who only breed for money....like my uncle!!! Chances are, wiht no papers, there is no proof she is pure bred. Just like my Pit Bull, she's a shelter rescue and they say she's full pit, but no papers= no pure bred

You know....Pictures would help too...........
