My new Rottie - help with pedigree search

Hi there, this is my second rottweiler and he is a registered intact male originally from Michigan.. ALthough I live in Sault Ste Marie Ontario. I was wondering where I can do a pedigree search .. His name is- ADOLPH YAGER BEAR
Sire- LORD TYSON MCCOZZ
Dam- BOSLEYS BEAUTIFUL BAILEY

I would like to look into getting his hips and elbows all checked out before anything is done with him.

If you or anyone would know more about the history of this dog it would be a great help! thank you
Kayla

Where did you get him from? Is he AKC registered?
You can do a search on pawvillage.com and put the sire and dam's name into the OFFA website...Orthopedic Foundation for Animals

Also...just because you get his hips and elbows checked..he would also need eyes and heart to be done too, as well as being shown in some type of venue. Either AKC show or Sieger show and he should have some sort of titles.

You need to know his history and his family history (pedigree)...before you even think of using him as a stud.

The breeder of this dog should be able to give you all the info.

Re: My new Rottie - help with pedigree search

This is WHY I am asking. I've got experience in showing / breeding other breeds of dogs (Chinese Shar-Pei) And wanted to LOOK into this before hand..I'm not going to just breed anything that walks..

Re: My new Rottie - help with pedigree search

I am confused ....

If you want to show him, show him.

I would do his health certs. regardless of his pedigree just for the benefit of knowing.

Look the dogs up on Pawvilliage and on the OFA site and you may find some info there. I would also talk to his breeder .... should be a wealth of knowledge on his background.

Re: My new Rottie - help with pedigree search

Hmmm -- you BOUGHT a "registered" dog without seeing a copy of his pedigree??? If I were you, I'd get right on the phone to your "breeder" and demand a copy of his pedigree. I did a quick search on the info you posted -- your dog is not currently registered with the AKC...at least not with that name. Both of the parents are registered with the AKC (sire is AKC #WS04375206 and dam is AKC #WS00165701)...you can order a pedigree online from American Kennel Club - akc.org for each of them. Neither parent has any AKC titles, nor any points even toward a title -- and neither of the parents has any OFA certifications. Honestly, you shouldn't even be considering breeding a dog without personally knowing his background...not to mention having his health certifications done (as you mentioned you were going to do...but I'd get the registration issue worked out first!) and putting some conformation and/or working titles on him.

If you have experience showing/breeding you would know the answer to your question...since being able to read a pedigree is very important.

Since your dog is not registered with the AKC, it is probably registered with one of the bogus registries such as CKC(Continental), or APRI.

Sounds like your dog comes from a BYB breeder. Get him neutered and enjoy him as the companion/pet he is.

IM SORRY.. I put the wrong letter in his name ITS ADOLFH YAGER BEAR (with an F), instead of "ADOLPH" with a P
No I did not get this dog without papers, I HAVE HIS PAPERS I am just asking where I can get more information on his history.. HOPING maybe his breeders or someone who would know his breeder would be on here.. I Know the breeders last names is BOSLEY. And the current owner on the papers is a BOYER. SO> I will be trying to contact his owners today to get more information on this dog.
I will be doing all the testing just for my knowledge and his well being. He's a beautiful dog even though he may not "HAVE MUCH" in his pedigree . I would like to get SOMETHING under his belt.. pointed somehow.
thanks for the replies :)

Without 'HAVING MUCH' in his pedigree...without the history of the health in the pedigree you have nothing. Just because you get his hips and elbows certified does not mean that his sire or dam did not have HD or siblings from the same litter.

Fine to show him if that is what you want to do...but please do not breed him. Without a long line of health certified dogs behind him, it's not a good idea.

Does the breeder of this dog, know that he has been passed along to another owner? Good COE breeder would have wanted their dog back, not have him passed along from owner, to owner.
