Talking Brindle markings

My Husband and I got our Rottie through a friend of a friend. We weren't planning on getting a pure bred pup or any pup at all when we got our Rottie Porscha. We knew we wanted a pup in about a month or so but a situation arose that we couldn't turn down. A friend of the family (not one that I know however) had a litter of pure bred rotties. I am not sure why but they offered one to us for free. Aparently they heard through the grape vine that we were thinking/looking at getting a pup. Long story short we got a female rottie "pure bred" pup from this family for free.
My husband and I are both skeptical as to whether she is actually a pure bred Rottie. (not that it matters she is awesome! were just curious)

She is about 8-9 months now we figure, as we aren't sure what her exact birth date is. She is about 88lbs, now.
Her tail is docked.
She looks very Rottie, except for her markings. Instead of the rottie brown, she has brindle in the rottie pattern (if that makes sense). And when she was younger she had a small tuff of white hair on her chest, not quite the size penny. She still has a few white hairs on her chest but they are almost impossible to find now.

Does anyone know why her markings are like this?
We saw one of her brothers when we picked her up, he had the rottie colors but she didn't. .....

Re: Brindle markings

Well, it could be that another dog sired your pup. Since you got your pup from a BYB, who knows. A pure bred rottie should not have any brindle. But it does not really matter now, spay your girl, love her and train her.

Re: Brindle markings

I can't wait to see pictures of your "brindle" rottie I bet she is very unusual looking. Maybe her real daddy is a boxer; they often have brindle patterns.

Shelby427: If a litter has mixed sires, would the ones w/ a rottie dad be considered "full"?

Re: Brindle markings

If there is black markings in the tan part this is not all that uncommon, it is called sooty markings and not desirable, but doesn't make them any less of a rottweiler :)

Do you have pictures?

Re: Brindle markings

If a litter has more than one sire, the AKC will consider registering the puppies.

http://www.akc.org/pdfs/rulebooks/RREGS2.pdf

It's on page 17.

But it doesn't specifically say what the policy is if the sire isn't purebred.

Re: Brindle markings

I have seen brindle markings on a dog that looked in every other way to be a Rottie. He was with a rescue. Beautiful dog. The rescue had him listed as a cross.

Re: Brindle markings

Here are some pictures of the brindle markings, I am not sure if you can see it very well or not. When we first got her she looked like a black lab, now you can see that she is very rottie because of her jaw line and her stature. I will see if I can find some better pictures.

Re: Brindle markings

VERY interesting...thats so unique that she has the same marking as where the mahogany would be on a rott but it is brindle..BUT in my opinion...she doesnt look like a purebred rott.... also I have heard from quite a few people that a little white patch the size of a penny is a defect among rotts that have not been bred purely along the lines...

Re: Brindle markings

She does look very rottie in structure! I see what you mean by brindle markings where the normal tan ones are supposed to be. What she has is way more than just "sooty" markings, they definately look brindle.

Wonder what it could be from, or if this can actually happen in pure rotts?

Re: Brindle markings

Her markings look a lot like both of my dogs (who are mixed breed). They remind me more of Isaiah who was listed as a Rottweiler/Labrador mix when we adopted him. In case you're interested his pictures are in the gallary.

Re: Brindle markings

She really is gorgeous, but pure? Probably not, but who cares - you don't sound as if it's an issue with you, either. What's her name?
For what it's worth, i love love love brindle, on any dog, any where.

Re: Brindle markings

She is adorable.
The brindle markings reminds me of my next door neighbors boxer.
Anyway I bet that doesn't matter to you - she looks like a real sweet girl.
