Not sure of what you are asking?

If you are asking what COE breeders do if one of the puppies that they produced has bad hip? it depends on each breeder and the contract that was signed by the puppy buyer.

Re: Breeders and bad hips

All a breeder can do is breed dogs with good hips, and give buyers all the information that he can. The best breeders, with the best dogs are still going to have pups with bad hips in this breed. The risk is with the puppy buyer, UNLESS the breeder assumes more responsibility under the terms of the contract.

Well I got my puppy from a puppy mill/byb type of situation, and their guarantee is that if the dog becomes crippled with HD then we get a new puppy for free, and this is a lifetime guarantee not just a 2 - 3 year one.

Yep, I have seen guarantees like that. But very few Rottweilers become "crippled" with HD. For the most part people become emotionally attached to their dog, and even if the dog has mild HD owners typically keep their dogs. Because what is the breeder going to do with the dog when it is returned? They are going to put it down.

And on the occassion they do replace a pup, no big deal it is just a numbers game.

With your contract can you KEEP your dog? This might be hard if you have to return the dog to be PTS in order to receive your FREE pup.
Will the breeder give you your next pup from different parents??
Lifetime is along time.

Any kennel can SAY anything and put ANYTHING in a contract. I personally don't think contracts mean all that much...especially when I hear about how many of them are broken and can't be enforced, and especially not one that has ANY kind of a "lifetime guarantee". A lot of people can disagree, and that's fine, but I don't think any of the breeders in germany offer ANY kind of a contract.

The contract doesn't say anything about having to give up the pup. It just says we will get a new pup of the same quality, so I don't really know if that means from the same parents or what. I did get Gary as "pet quality" because he was born with a small white spot on his chest (and they are keeping my AKC paperwork until I get him neutered, not like the paperwork means anything anyways), so I'm thinking it means I would just get another pet quality puppy.

Even if I ended up having to return a dog, I definately would not do it. If it turned out that my dog did have to be put to sleep because it was so bad, then I would just have to see how I felt before getting another puppy....which I WON'T be because I don't want to get another puppy mill puppy anyways. I would look for a different breeder.
